The Powerlifting/Advanced forum is for questions about advanced techniques and powerlifting workout routines. If an advanced weight lifter had questions about a certain technique, he would already know what muscle(s) that technique targets, and he’d already have a good idea of how much weight he should use for how many reps.

If he had questions about his routine, he would also explain his reasoning why he had picked those specific lifts and why he was doing them in that order.

Here is an example of an excellent "Advanced" post:

I've now tried both days in my new routine (full body AB, can be found on my profile), and today I tried pullovers with DB and cable, both lying with only shoulder-part of back on, and entire torso, neither was comfortable (during stretch when DB/handle was closest to floor) =/ I used low weights, and my lats had no problems, I just didn't like the feel of it.

So I went in on exrx.net to find a replacement, and these are my 3 contestant (in order I think I'll like the most):
1) Cable twisting standing overhead pull
2) Cable bent-over Pullover
3) Cable seated pullover

Now #2 beats #3 because of the simple reason that then I don't have to drag a bench, and can just use any of the cables at my gym easily (no wait). These 2 however I guess I just try both and see which I like most, as long as nobody has any opinions on them, if so, please do share!

Now onto the real question!

#1 uses more synergists, in particular I like that it uses brachialis and forearm (both get worked day A, not B), but I'm concerned about all the hip & spine work. Is this exercise only going to do me good, or can it be harmful? Which stance would be better?

An advanced weight lifter would already know about DOMS and that it’s not an indication of how effective a workout has been.

An advanced weight lifter would post detailed questions, and say what other information he’s found out about his topic.

“When should I start deadlifting?” is NOT an advanced question.

A good advanced question IS “I’ve been lifting for two years and I’m thinking about adding deadlifts into my routine. I’ve found information about deadlifting form that says (xyz). My routine currently has these (xyz) lifts that I can do at these (xyz) weights. How much weight do you think I should start with when I begin deadlifting?”

There are some topics where it’s difficult to decide if it belongs in Bulking or in Powerlifting/Advanced. A topic about pushups would go in Bulking, BUT if that topic was about the many variations of pushups and the effectiveness of the variations, that could belong in Advanced.

Many other bodybuilding boards don’t classify squats, deadlifts, Olympic lifts, etc., as advanced, but because of the complexity of these kinds of lifts, and the greater need for excellent form to prevent possible injury, we generally keep those topics in Advanced. We don’t want a beginning bodybuilder to try these more complex lifts without first building a muscle base and proper form base.

Powerlifting consists of the squat, deadlift, and bench press, with these lifts executed for the maximum amount of weight possible--the main goal of powerlifting is strength. To differentiate it from bodybuilding, in bodybuilding the main emphasis is on muscle development and symmetry, not strength (although strength does result from muscle development). Here's the definition from an official powerlifting site ---> International Powerlifting Federation.

If you’re not sure which forum to put your topic in, start with the Bulking forum!

You make your choices, and you live with them. In the end, you are those choices.
