Anyone can learn it.  Perfection, on the other hand, takes a lifetime.  Start with a broom, an empty barbell, a steel pipe.

The soviets, in the past, would play with a broom for form, depending on their routine before the games begin. (olympics)

Snatch hang pull - snatch grip and jerk grip is the key.

If you're the brutish sort, the continental is for you.  You lift and hang the bar to your belt, clean it, jerk it.

Google continental snatch and clean and jerk.

    ..

Of course having a coach beats doing it solo in every angles.

    ---

Example.  We train how ever we wish, but if we have a coach, after seing us lift for a few workouts, he or she can suggest certain changes and a routine that strengthen one's weakness oj order to improve the lift.  Such cannot be done by working out alone except upon taking a video of one's form and comparing it with a champion's.  And it's still difficult because what works for one may not work for another.  Wink

I'm not familiar with what 10 rep snatch sets is. Smiley

I just do one snatch at a time until I've done ten.  Cheesy

Merc's routine looks pretty good but if you want to venture into olympic lifts a coach is necasary. If you were to learn these on your own it would take months of practice to be able to do these properly with out a coach.

But you do agree one can learn it themselves though it would take a lot of time, right?

You could learn them on your own but like merc said perfection takes a life time. I'm not an expert on olympic lifting but it would probably take 4 months+ of practicing with an empty bar before you could add weight safely. If you do want to learn them on your own I would highly suggest videotaping yourself every time you perform the exercise. This allows you to critique yourself.

A coach is needed, but if you're going to do it on your own anyway, do the ones I have already quoted above, there's much less to go wrong.
