like many other posters i discovered this site accidently while searching fitness advise and find the info excellent.
question-using site calculator my body fat is about 16% and 26lbs.if i manipulate the calculator to 10% body fat it tells me i have 16lbs fat.
so,if i lose 1lb fat a week for 10 weeks and follow scoobys intro training should i start to see defined abs?
body type is mesomorph.
i do regular cardio,1hr 5-7 days a week-cross country running and rowing(sculling).
in road races run 10km in 40 mins .
thank you for your help.

If you get down to 10 % body fat, you should see them. Genetics and exercise is going to play a role in how defined they are. I would not lose the weight too quickly so you don't lose muscle along with the fat.

If your body fat is within 10 percent or less and you don't see your abs, the solution is not to decrease one's bodyfat, but to build some muscle. :3

I measure my % bodyfat regularly and find that my abs show clearly at anything less than 14%. At 10% bodyfat all of the sections are clearly separate without any tensing.

The thing to bear in mind is that my own ab structure is heavily developed due to using lots of heavy basic free weight exercises as well as direct ab exercises. I also regularly road cycle and hike long distances for aerobic work. I hit 2 heavy weights workouts a week and cardio 5 days a week.

It looks like you are doing very well with your cardio training but make sure you regularly workout with weights/resistance exercises in addition to the cardio work. Cardio work is not enough for all round fitness. Weights will also give you strength and power as well as a more developed/balanced appearance.

I tend to agree with MercNil in building muscle in the midsection so that you will be certain to see your abs at 10% bodyfat.

    Good luck with your training!

thanks for the advise,i have never done any weight training, although rowing gives the upper body a workout,so will stick with the beginners routine for a few months.

Losing the fat too fast will make you lose muscle too, you have plenty of time to accomplish your goal before beach season anyway Smiley

To check now if you will have abs at 10% bodyfat, flex your abs hard now and then dig your fingers in and see if you can feel the valleys of your abs.  If can feel distinct valleys you will have visible 6-pack abs.  If you cant then you will need to do some ab workouts in addition to lowering bodyfat.
