Is chin up's targeted towards Biceps, or Lats? I have always been under the impression that chin ups were primarily biceps and secondarily Lats.

Aside from this, I am having difficulty doing wide grip pull ups, my lats are not as developed as my biceps.  What should I be doing in the mean time to strengthen my lats to be able to do wide grip pull ups?  I am able to do 6 chin ups with good form, however, I don't know if chin ups targets all parts of the Lats.

Chin ups will target the lats just fine, surely do not skip out on them.

As for more exercises for lats, rows are great for strengthening them. Don't let them be a substitute for chin ups, however. Chin/Pull ups are the number 1 best exercise for your lats.

    Yes, chinup's work bicep's mainley + lats...I would say 70% biceps 30% lats (around).

To get your lats stronger, I recommend watching scoobys lat video called Cobra Lats- Pullups 4 Beginers[/b] (type that on youtube)

Chin-ups work lats mainly like pull-ups. The difference in lat emphasis between chin-ups and pull-ups is not really big and people tend to be able to do a bit more chin-ups than pull-ups so it evens out. Biceps is worked more in the chin-up and brachioradialis is worked more in the pull-up.

HerrKaputt clears it in his post: http://www.askscooby.com/basic-techniques-36/pull-ups-vs-chin-ups-which-grip-is-best/

yes chinups work your lats! i can really feel the soreness in my lats the next day. they are a great mass builder for lats and biceps. just keep doing chinups and throw in barbell rows or dumbell rows and you will eventually get stronger and be able to do pullups.

Dille is completely correct. The proof is in the link which shows that chinups and pullups work both the lats and the biceps. Its just that chinups use a larger ratio of biceps than pullups do. Somple as that.

A simple search would have answered the original question immediately.

    Indeed it would have.

Can you curl most of your own bodyweight? If you can't, yet can do chinups, then that alone shows how -little- the biceps are involved! Tongue
