ok ima try to summarize this so i dont bore you guys i have been weight lifting on and off since age 14 (ima be 26 in a few days) everything i knew about lifting was wrong and i always have emulated the big guy.
         ive always done 6 day splits with 20-30 reps and 3-4 sets i picked up weight lifting again this past year and a half doing the same 6 day split (not religiously sadly for i have been incarcerated a lot on and off) my gains if i even made any are pathetic as you can see on my profile pic.
             sad thing before i got internet and found the scooby website is i thought if i worked hard enough i could reach 240 lb of muscle with little bf in 10 years from 118, i now know thats just unrealistic and have a more realistic goal, sadly this past year ive been focusing too much on learning about nutrition (i learned way too much and still learn more everyday) that i completely ignored learning about routines (wolfs info is great but its too much for me to know right at this stage).
            let me tell you my goal, i am at 122 (126 when i get water weight) 6% bf, by age 32 i want to be at 140 (including water weight) and stay at 5-6% bf mass spread evenly all thru my body but more on my lats and shoulders for the v taper look Smiley. i have a job and sometimes martial arts training that get in the way of lifting, so i need a routine i can do in 45 mins (not including warm up and strecthing) every other day. what matters most to me is strength over mass, ive heard about starting strength which seems like its perfect for me but i know no specific details of it, ive also heard about strong lifts which also looks great but i dont know if i can accomplish that in 45 mins nor do i know details, does anyone knows which routine would suit me best or have a more optimal routine for me?

    Starting Strength does indeed seem ideal for your situation. All that is needed (aside from equipment of course) is the SS book. If you cant buy it, or even get it second hand for whatever reason, the wiki page (link in my signature) is a decent place to start. After that, youtube has a ridiculous amount of videos on Rippetoe teaching form on the basic lifts. And there are a lot of other places on the internet that provide good free info too.

    So wiki and youtube are 2 great sources.

    If you dont want to do SS, the 21 workouts thread (which you are already aware of) is a fantastic place for finding a routine. There is a Novice strength specific routine by Dodo down the page. It only has 3 lifts per session and so wouldnt take as much time as one of the wolfs fullbody workouts that have twice as many lifts.

    All you need is a barbell, a rack and a bench. Even if you dont have a bench, you could just as easily do dips instead and then all you need is a rack and a barbell.

    awesome this is very helpful, i can get the book which is great cause i prefer books over reading over the internet. of course ima need a routine to do until i get the book, so ima do Dodo's until it gets here, i was wondering if i can replace the chin ups with pull ups? chin ups are too easy for me, would i still be working out the same muscles? i do got a bench 2 barbells (a long one and shorter one) dumbbells, as for a rack i dont got that one anyway to substitute that with everyday house hold items?  i am also practicing the form on deadlifts with just a barbell, is it ok to substitute one leg deadlifts with dumbbells until i get the form perfect? also do you have a link of what streches i should be doing? the streches ive been doing have been from what i learned from boxing practice and i dont think they will help me on all these compound exercises that require so much of my back.

    Without some kind of rack you wont be able to do SS or any other routine that has barbell squats (either front or back). I would say that a rack is the second most important piece of equipment someone can invest in (a bar being first of course). But thats not to say you cant still have an effective workout. Unilateral leg training and other lifts that dont need a rack are your best options.

    Pullups instead of chins is fine, but if chins are too easy, adding weight would be a better idea imo. Deadlifting with dumbbells wont do much for improving your form with a barbell. I think you should just stick with a barbell and add weight. With good form, there is nothing to fear with deadlifts.

    Stretches...no idea. I dont really stretch so dont know what should be done. Foam rolling is all i do for mobility work.

    thanks so much i learned a lot today, i have no choice but to get the power rack, i will look for one tomorrow. i have arm and leg weights so weighted chin ups are possible and ima do em. will also stick to deadlifting light weight and hope my form is perfected eventually.
