Is there a way to expand the rib cage? I am not talking about adding muscle on top of it though.
I have lost quite alot of fat and it has revealed an ugly truth: not only that I have had little muscle under the fat but also that my bones are deformed. By now I should have 4 pack but instead I have 2 pack. That's because it seems that my rib cage has collapsed in such way that it covers the upper part of 4 pack...  Roll Eyes If I expand my rip cage by taking a deep, deep breath, things look much better.

So basically my rib cage must have collapsed inwards and I have very narrow rib cage in comparison to the average guy. Is there anything to do to expand it at this age? I am 35 so my bone development has stopped long time ago.

If you train your chest I think it will become less noticeable.

I do train my chest Smiley In fact my rip cage is narrower than my hip bone.

I used to be struggling with a problem like this myself, one of my ribs on the left side had a dent in it, wich made the right side appear wider.

I kept on training and now I can't see anymore problems, so I guess you just have to keep on with your routine and eat enough that you cover up what you don't like Wink

And I'm sure most of the times with things like these, it's only you who sees it and nobody else!

If you notice super-heavyweight athletes you'll notice that they have ginormous upper body midsections.  Of course some of this is genetics, but also it's the way they train.  When you weight lift your bones, along with your muscles, will get denser and bigger and stronger.  The Bench-Press and the pull-overs are big ribcage expanding movements.  That's actually why most professional fighters shy away from such exercises.  Of course I have NO idea how long it will take to correct that (and you should probably see a specialist) because I've never seen a work out program specifically designed around rib-cage expanding xD.  Stay safe!

I have been bench pressing regularly since 2006 but I haven't seen any result.

I have decided to change my training program to bodyweight exercises primarily now.

I wonder if breathing exercises would have any effect too.

Some think that it is possible to enlarge the rib cage by performing pullovers after a set of squats.

But the common view is that this is a just a myth.  

I've read an article by one strength writer who suggested that although he thinks it is, on the whole, a myth, it may be possible to gain a little size if you are in your teens and still growing.

Given your age, you're probably going to have to work with what you've got. (BTW, I'm 35 this year -- so don't take my conclusion as an age-related knock!)

I have to wonder, you say when you take a deep breath things look better, could it be your posture? Stand up straight pull your shoulders back,
I know that I have bad posture slouch so bad looks like I have no chest at all...working out has made me so aware of this and I have improved ....any way that's my 2 cents....lol

The bone structure of the rib cage cannot be changed. You can add muscle to change the shape of your torso.

Yeah, my rib cage isn't as broad as my damn pelvis. Just need to get mass on it, no other solution.

You can stretch your rib cage. Do heavy dumbbell pullovers. Make sure you take a deep breath on the negative and hold it for a few seconds. Really arch your back and try to puff out your chest. I would show you before and after pics but I have no before pics. Trust me when I say these stretched my rib cage and made it larger. I would perform them after every upper body workout. I usually do 3 sets of 10-12 with a 50-60lb dumbbell which is about my max for that many reps.

Sounds like it.

I have a pigeon chest (pectus carinatum). It's actually why I am here, the only benefit of having it is a lack of motivation is never an issue for me.  Body building is supposed to be a very effective way of masking this problem.

I didn't realise it was pretty common. The opposite of this condition is called pectus excavatum, whereby the sternum grows inwards and the chest appears hollowed out. This is supposed to be much more common than pectus carinatum.

Same problem here, albeit not like the textbook pigeon chest, mine protrudes most at the top. So, basically what sticks out in front, reduces width of the chest.
