i currently am doing a 3 day FBW, since i am trying to gain mass and I like the idea of training with lots of heavy compound exercises.  However i like going to the gym and i have lots of free time to do so.  I feel like i could be making even more gains by taking advantage of my extra time to work out by moving to a 4 or 5 day routine.

so, will i be able to put on more muscle by increasing the number of days i work out, or are 3 intense days more than enough stimulation?

3 intense days is more than enough.  Don't reinvent your working wheel when it's working for you. Smiley

More than enough. You will overtrain and your muscles need rest to grow.

You could possibly refine your workout a little more and add in an extra day, splitting it, and making each day a little more intense on certain muscle groups, and split it carefully so them groups are definitely resting when you're working other groups, but it would take careful planning.

Just leave it as it is.

It depends on how long you've been working out, really. If you're rather new I would stick to a full body workout done thrice a week, because as a beginner, a split training would lead to both, over and under training. Under training because you prolly lack intensity in the gym and your muscles just don't need that week to recover and over training because it would be too much stress on your CNS.

But just because you got more free time doesn't mean you waste it by working out three times only. Do some cardio, focus on your nutrition and maybe learn something new about bodybuilding.
