What do you really consider the most important muscles for real life strength and what is your favorite exercise for that?
Honestly, my picks are hands, biceps and shoulders
Rarely have I had to pick something up that I couldn't phyiscally deadlift, usually the issue was I couldn't grip it, and when it comes to carrying stuff, my biceps and shoulders usually get the most strain.
That being said, I do think deadlift is useful, especially if you have to team lift boxes a lot. For shoulders and biceps, just rows, OHP and raises.
What is your opinion?

All of them. I know it's not the answer you would like, but all your muscles work together to do things. Lifting stuff, fighting, etc, all rely on your body to be balanced and use all your muscles properly. Thats why the best exercises for you are the compound lifts that use many muscles at once, such as the deadlift which uses pretty much all of your body, similar to lifting boxes.

In todays world there is no real use of strength, though its probably useful when old age comes around to have a strong lower back/core.
I spent 99% of my life miserably weak, and I never felt incapable of dealing with the day to day chores of life. Even when it comes to sports, technique is vastly more important then brute strength. Its nice to be strong, but its rather irrelevant in the grand scheme of things.

Yessir. Last Friday I almost got into a fight with my best friend. Long story short ended up "wrestling" for literally 4 or so minutes. He has a ~45 lb weight advantage over me but could barely do anything to me (not trying to brag). Doing heavy Squats and Deadlits to develop a strong lower body and a strong core really helps in physical situations

the body works as a whole unit, so you got to build a full unit. a weak link will be found and let the stronger part down. it all starts with the mind and the CNS.

Many things today (in developed countries) require absolutely no physical strength. More important is mental strength. This is where physical strength can help however not required. There might be some exception like house builders, construction workers, or they who can earn money with sports . But if engineers do a good job the jobs requiring strength will get less and less. Sorry I'm an engineers - I got to think like that . There is a saying: "If a engineer has not made is own job obsolete at the end of his life, he did a bad job" . So there are not many good engineers around here .

I'm guessing you've never worked on a building site ...? Or as a removal man ...?

I went over and pushed one right out in the hallway without even meaning to.

Useful strength is the ability to think on one's toes. For useful physical strength? Push ups, chinups, and ability to run for at least 30 minutes. :3

LOL ! IMO functional streng comes from compound movemts. Any exercise where several muscles work together will give you useful strenght. Also been a mecanic or a construction worker will give you functional strength

I would say, many exercises they do on the strongman competitions/training are quite useful in real life, or at least similar to some things you would do as a builder or something.
