So I'm one of those skinny/fat guys but I have improved since I started working out with cardio and cleaned up my diet for over half a year but I still have a tiny pot belly that I just can't get rid of. The worse part is that I cant even hold on to the fat around the belly or pinch it to estimate my body fate percentage because it is jellylike if you get what I mean. This makes me come to the conclusion that I have a lot of visceral fat around the belly and hardly any subcutaneous fat. Am I right? when I flex I can see some outline of a 4 pack but when it is relaxed its a tiny pot belly which I cant even get hold of lolll. And how can I measure my bodyfat % if I cant even pinch that area lol. So any thoughts?

If your body fat is very low, the better solution might be to increase muscle mass rather than thin yourself more.  :3

My bodyfat % is definitely not low, but I think I have quite a lot of visceral fat which goes unaccounted for when the ratio of lean muscle tissue to fat is calculated. I am not worried about it too much because as I am gaining strength and muscle mass so I am slowly edging away from the skinny zone but I have poor definition despite my strict diet and cardio alongside weight lifting which is leading me to think whether losing fat is harder for me than gaining muscle? Or that visceral fat is a type which is very hard to lose? I have researched on it but there are dissenting opinions which has left me a bit confused....

The thing is, like rome, it can't be done overnight. Smiley  Hang in there and you'll get results in the future.

Im glad to hear you have cleaned up your diet and are trying to be healthy!  As far as the belly fat though, It is imperative that you do exercise, and not just a 5 minute walk with the dog, it needs to be a full fledged cardio exercise that raises your heart rate, recommended atleast 20 minutes. You dont have to go and kill your self doing an hour of cardio, but you can build your way up by doing 20 minutes of cardio and adding on slowly. It wont come over night, but the results will come! Also, once you become more aerobically conditioned, try doing HIIT 2-3 times a week! And even though you have said you have a clean diet, make sure it is actually a clean and healthy diet and not just a cleaner diet from what you've had before. Diet is very important! I hope this has helped, and good luck!  Smiley

Yeah I used to do 40 minutes jogging every day for cardio in the mornings but when I discovered HIIT 2 months ago, I have been doing that 4 days a week (the other 3 days are weightlifting), for 15 minutes by using a jump rope, and it shoots my heart rate through the roof so I am pretty conditioned aerobically but my belly region doesnt compliment that but I dont mind keeping up the cardio since it will compliment the weight lifting by helping in recovery of the muscles faster. Yeah I am making sure to keep away from the bad fats and simple sugars, get the amount of protien in 6 small meals with complex carbs. The thing that frustrates me is that I have managed to put on muscle faster than losing that last chunk of fat over the 7 or so months even though as scooby highlighted in his vid, its supposed to be the other way around.

Sounds like you just plain need to continue your weight lifting and fat loss program, with a slight heavier emphasis on fat loss for now.

It is very unlikely you have visceral fat buildup with little to no subcutaneous fat.... but a picture is worth 1,000 words.

Can you post one of your torso?

Yes I think I should keep up the HIIT and weightlifting. I said I might have visceral fat with no subcutaneous fat coz I cant get hold of the fat around the belly region so thats how I concluded that.
Can someone plz tell me how to include pics in the reply coz it is not letting me paste the pics so I pressed that image button but that just gives me some writing in brackets saying image lol. What am I supposed to do with that? lol

You need to host the image online, and then you place the link to the image between the brackets.

Visceral fat is under your muscle layer; if you somehow had low subcutaneous fat and high visceral fat, you wouldn't have the "jelly" that you describe, and could even have nicely defined abs.

hmmm i see you have a point, but I have always thought of visceral fat also contributing to the person not having defined abs since it surrounds the organs and even though it is under the muscle layer, it can still cover the abdomin region concealing those abs if there is enough of it there. What I meant by jellylike was that its not something i can pinch nicely unlike the fat on other parts of my body for example i can easily pinch the fat on my obliques but not on the belly region. I do have some outline of my abs when I flex but a very vague one I hope these two pics I am posting help, one is with abs flexed and one is with relaxed.

Both of those people have 10% bodyfat, it could simply mean you do not have the muscle mass. That is something i see all of the time at school, kids that are twig thin yet do not have any definition whatsoever (not that I check out other guys it's just hard not to notice when over 100 guys are changing in the same room) my point is you probably have the right amount of body fat but you just need to gain the muscle which unfortunately is much harder than losing fat
