So I've been experimenting with different kinds of cardio. I've found that swimming and the elliptical allow me to maintain a high heart rate. but I can't maintain it with other forms of cardio like jogging and biking because the muscles in my legs fatigue much quicker than I can keep my heart rate up. I know swimming is an effective form of cardio but what do you guys think of the elliptical? thanks.

Try this.  Measure your heart rate when you're doing the eleptical.  See if it's withing your heart's cardio phase.  If it's not, then don't do it.  If it is, then use the machine.  Else, you can always do jumprope, briskwalking, running, swimming, tabata burpees, etc. :3

If you enjoy it, then its an AWESOME way to get cardio!  Its low impact so avoids runnings typical overuse injuries. One caveat though, make SURE you set the resistance high enough to get your heart rate properly elevated.  My gym has a lot of what I call cosmetic-cardio folks, they looke like they are doing cardio but they are not. . They put it on level 1 which is the easiest and then watch TV for an hour, you might as well sit on the sofa and tap your foot as it would elevate your heart rate about the same.

Due to some knee issues, the elliptical is my "go to" piece of cardio equipment.  Have been using it for the past 2 years and have found it to be very effective.  I vary workouts from steady state to HIIT and a lot of other combinations.   I agree with Scooby...if you enjoy it, keep doing it.
