It's not.  The reason is that it will be taxing for your joints.  Thus, it will make a difference which you won't want  to experience. Smiley

I jump rope with ankle weights, it's pretty common for fighters to do, it helps with conditioning and foot speed/coordination. Never heard of running with them though.....I have to agree with saying that wouldn't be so good on the joints.

I agree with MercNil, running with wrist/ankle weights could easiky lead to injury.  Whats your goal in doing this?  If its to burn off more calories then run uphill, run faster, ordo burpees.  On the other hand if you want to gain some muscle while doing cardio then do complexes

Thanks! My goal is to burn extra calories and workout my muscles more at the same time. If wrist weights are hard on the joints, the what about a weighted training vest? would it be worth running with one of them or to just do push ups and pull ups with one?

If you just want to burn more, either run faster or longer - or alternate between them. Or do interval training on running.

A little story I wanna share:
When I was a teenager I was playing soccer. One day I came up with the idea to get faster and stronger for soccer by playing soccer with ankle weights. Similar to those:
    http://www.amazon.com/Reebok-05-55080-Reebok-Adjustable-Weight-10-Pounds/dp/B003PAX770/ref=sr_1_5?s=exercise-and-fitness&ie=UTF8&qid=1327145089&sr=1-5
I did that one summer long. Maybe it did improve my speed and shooting strength. I cant really tell Cheesy. But the one thing I know for certain is, at the end of the summer the weights were destroyed Cheesy. They lost a little of the sand and the closing mechanism was defect. In short the weights became useless to me ^^. And I wasnt injured. I also did not do that with a second set of weights because the results were not as good as I was hoping Smiley.
The only thing I liked was that when I turned them off, I felt like I could fly. But usually I was not able to perform as good as if I had not worn them before Wink.

It is.  Simply do it without those and you'll be fine. Smiley

What about walking with light hand weights? (3 pounds each) Not attached to your wrist, but just ones you hold.

Did that too for a while. Depending on how long/intense you do it, it will do more harm than good. I dropped it because of the overuse of the forearm muscles/wrist that I felt.

    So: no.
