I tried reading a few articles on scooby's website but I just need a little bit of advise. I am trying to get a toned muscle look. I tried losing fat but I just don't know if I am not eating right or am I losing muscle from doing cardio. Should I eat more or just add more protein to my diet and lessen the fat intake. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks for reading. (Ask me anything if you misunderstand something)

You can't shape your muscles really, you can make them bigger. The shape is determined by genetics, there is no such thing as toned muscle look Smiley. That's just muscular body with low bodyfat%. You can lower your bodyfat% by gaining muscle and losing fat. You wont lose muscle by doing cardio. Nutrition + Cardio = Caloric deficit = You'll lose fat.

Are you sure because I heard that cardio could burn muscle. If it just burns off fat though, then I can keep doing what I am doing, maybe just increase my protein intake(40 minutes steady cardio Everyday, muscle workouts Monday, Wednesday,Friday)

Cardio won't burn muscle unless you are super lean, and even then you'd have to do it fasted, and not eat right after, and not eat during if it is more than 90-120 minutes. That being said, be skeptical of what the bros say at the gym, most of it is false.

The only way that cardio "burns" muscle is when you aren't eating enough each day and are also low carbs, and the protein you eat is diverted to replenish glycogen burned from the cardio before it goes towards building leanmass. Combined with lighter, higher rep sets that some seem to push for "toning", your body doesn't need to be as strong/big for lighter weights and you adapt to be more efficient.

So keep lifting heavy weights (in the 5-8 rep max range), and replenish your carbs after intense cardio the same way you'd eat some protein /carbs after a workout. The same window of increased insulin sensitivity exists for cardio, to replenish glycogen. Good luck with your training goals!

Most questions you have about building muscle is answered in this article.

Getting big, strong muscles and losing fat is simple but it's not easy! To accomplish anything worthwhile in life, you need a firmly fixed goal; willpower; a high tolerance for pain.

    "Toned" =
gaining muscle mass thru resistance training
    +
    losing bodyfat thru caloric deficit
