Hey guy's, just a question that popped into my head, I know that if u push yourself, you condition yourself and make your body adapt therefore getting fitter!, but how does your body change?, what changes and makes u fitter?, something to do with the cps system?

be very cool if someone could touch upon this?

it becomes much more efficient at bringing oxygen in, burning glucose, and taking waste out at the cellular level.

Red blood cells increase in oxygen and carbon dioxide movement efficiency, heart increases in size and strength (more blood pumped each stroke) - this is why RBC count in athletes is lower than normal people (and why they dope). More glycogen is stored in muscles, muscle size increase (hypertrophy) as well as individual cell size increase (sarcoplasmic hypertrophy); increase in mitochondrial count....

let's see...... what else... increase in VO2 max (intercostal muscle/diagphram strength allowing more forceful breathing - higher volume of oxygen exchange).......... LOTS of things! :p

EDIT: retarded text modification on my account

Such a simple question that you never really think about lol.  Good answers given.  I've never really put thought into what actually happens to make a body fitter.

Yes in the sense that you can train and never push yourself and steadily get fitter [to an extent]. However this takes much longer.

This is why something like HIIT is one of the best methods to increase fitness. It's pushing you to your max/overload repeatedly each session, gives the body a big kick up the arse as far as fitness improvement is concerned.
