Anyway... I think you should try to eat 3 meals a day and have a couple protein shakes in between these meals.

Sorry; quick question:
Do you mean that I should have 3 meals a day with an additional total 2 protein shakes for the day, or 3 meals a day with an additional 2 protein shakes in between each meal totaling 4 a day?

thanks,
e

I'm sure he meant 3 meals + 2 shakes. That's pretty standard. Not to hijack your thread but you remind me of myself a little bit, except I'm not a vegetarian. I'm trying to put on mass/look awesome, I'm in my 30's and just now I have the time and the equipment and the drive to actually give it a go. Please keep us updated on your progress, and good luck! Solidarity, bro!

Aaron

Yeah, this is what I meant. I think it's better not to rely on protein powder, your body needs real food.

If you're cool with eating eggs, I'd start including those in your diet. You need some dietary cholesterol to produce testosterone.

i saw that scooby said in a youtube vid that egg yolks are terrible.
what are your experiences with that?
if they are, how do you personally eat egg yolks in your diet?  like; do you make egg white omelets, etc?

This is one of the rare occasions on which I can't agree with Scooby.

Although it's true that egg yolks hold most of the calories of an egg, they also contain a lot of micro-nutrients, which egg-whites lack.

Also, egg-whites alone taste bad IMO.

Like House, I think it's okay to eat the yolk. One reason Scooby doesn't eat the yolk is because he restricts his calories but since you're trying to gain weight I would say it's okay for you to do it.

People here seldom seem to address the bad things the egg yolk has!!!! Just talking about the calories in the egg yolk primarily and a little of micro-nutrients is ignorance.

Egg yolks have a hell lot of Cholesterol in them and the detrimental effects of cholesterol on heart health far out-weighs the merits of the so called micro-nutrients it has. One large egg yolk (~50-60Cals from yolk) has 70-80% of the daily needed cholesterol on a 2000Cal/day diet. You can get this numbers from various nutrition data websites online. Not just that we get a considerable amount of cholesterol from other foods like meats, milk, nuts, etc, and of course our own liver manufactures it too. In other words if you are having one egg yolk per day, then you are literally not supposed to eat any other foods that contain cholesterol, of course in an ideal case, it's that serious. Read all about Cholesterol here. If you are really worried about the "micro-nutrients" then find other foods that have them and eat them, it's not very difficult. Human liver is a wonderful organ, even if you don't consume any cholesterol from foods, it can still manufacture all the cholesterol your body requires. Cholesterol is an essential ingredient for human body BUT only in the amount the body needs!

If you don't believe me, do this experiment: go to a doctor/a diagnostic center and get your lipid profile done today and note your LDL count. Consume 1-2 egg yolks per day and do your routine stuff then after a month go back and get your lipid profile done. See for yourself how your LDL count changes. Having said that the one and only one case where it will only increase slightly is if you do very intense cardio for 30-60mins or more EVERY day in EXCESS of your regular cardio, your LDL count will still increase but not as much as if you weren't doing the EXCESS cardio.

Spare the small egg yolk and do your heart a big favor!

    Hope that helps. Smiley

I generally eat a 2-3 egg omelet in the morning. I've had blood work done recently and my cholesterol levels were normal, so I wouldn't freak out about it.
If you're older, have heart disease, or have a family history of high cholesterol I wouldn't eat them.

Well, it's been around 8 months.  I've seen significant gains with my physique, but I'm still finding that people are constantly commenting on how skinny I am.
     Huh?

I realize that this is one of the most important (and obvious) parts about BBing, so I would really like to focus on my nutrition more.
I'm trying to figure out a gameplan for carbs and protein so that when I'm at work I don't have to worry about what to do for my 6 meals per day.
What I'm certain of is that I'm lifting and working out enough.  I've modified my regime so that I am at my peak performance currently, but I'm having a hard time not feeling like I'm wasting this energy since I'm not gaining enough muscle (imo).

I would have expected to get bigger than this by now, based on what I've read.  If I had to guess, it would be because I'm not eating enough (or being diligent enough with my diet), and burning off a lot of my muscle gain.

What do people recommend for carbs on the go?  Crackers?  Bananas?  I'm running out of ideas.  :/

I think that my (non regular meal) protein solution is fairly set with
    1. cottage cheese
    2. nuts
    3. occasional protein shakes

... but I haven't seen a lot of info around for carbs on the go.

    I really enjoyed this video:
    www.youtube.com/watch?v=xAarTs4CR_g

... He gives a lot of info for vegetarians and meat eaters alike.

Does anyone else have any suggestions to help me out?  I feel like the nutrition portion of this adventure is kicking my ass.  Sad

    Thanks,
    e

Good work! That's the most important thing. It will take longer for other people to notice your gains but if you keep it up, they will notice.

In my opinion, you should keep at what you're doing and increase your calorie intake by about 500 calories. If you put on fat and start to look bad then it should be easy for you to lose it again.  Smiley
