Jump Rope Advice

Hello, looking for some advice on jump roping as well as jump ropes in general. Main goal is losing weight and build endurance, plan to do cardio 5 times a week and add in workouts as I build up.
6'2 (74in)
220 Pounds
Medium Build
Age 25
Male
I been a couch potato the last few years so I imagine it will take a while to snap my body to a new tune. Currently I do 30 minutes at 30 seconds on and 30 seconds off, so 15m at the rate of 128 JPM. If I got at my "best" speed I can do about 160 JPM or so but I wont keep that pace for more than 10 minutes. What is the best method to build my time but also prevent that "uhhhh do I need to do cardio daily" feeling if you over do it. I am on day 2 and see gains all ready...I did 20m yesterday with two 1 minute breaks (body didn't enjoy day 1 lol) and felt pretty rough after....today I did all 30m and felt good and hope my legs feel good tomorrow. Getting sore the longer I sit so time will tell but I imagine its a massive change so I might slow it down depending.
Jump rope is my next question. I jump on concrete (I know bad) but I have no "good" place to do it in my house. (low ceilings) I started jumping 1in or so off the ground and keeping my knees bent for the workout to help avoid injury. My big thing is I have a "cheap" jump rope, I had some old handles off a old one and I use coaxial cable (tv cable) with 2 wire nuts in the handles to spin with ease. Only issue is I can't really spin with just my wrists and need to use my arms to assist. Is there a good rope out there thats cheap and can handle 6'2-6'3 sizes? Most ropes claim to be up to 6'2 but they don't do it very well and I am fed up with local stores as 90% only have children ropes or 6'0 and under.
Lastly for those that do jump rope how do you warm up and warm down? I usually do standing calve stretches then walk around my garage for 1-2 minutes with my knee going up to my chest. Made my workout today MUCH easier than the day before doing this, I then do "slower" jumps for 2 minutes or so then increase.
Thank you very much for any help or advice. If you know any good "weight lifting" threads I would also appreciate links to that, I have a weight bench, dumbells, and a pull up bar at my disposal. Thank you.

Also another question, is there a cheap material I could put under my feet to "soften" the blow from being on a concrete floor?
