Hey gnomes! apparantely Rebbok shapers is a new type of running shoe which gives you more of a workout, do you believe this ?..."your gluteal gluteus maximus (your butt muscles) will get 28% more of a workout and your calves and hamstrings will get an 11% harder workout when you wear EasyTone" http://www.squidoo.com/reebok-easytone

I really don't like things like that that make bold claims. I imagine it's a pair of shoes that distort your regular gait (walking style) therefore working muscles harder and/or differently than your used to and in doing so works the muscles harder. The thing is I'd imagine that you'd then not be able to run as far due to energy expenditure the the extra contractions/harder contractions cause. Also you'd probably be a lot more likely to twist your ankles/knee as they should change how your foot lands and what not.
So to paraphrase, no they shouldn't give you more of a workout than running normally would but will most likely do you some damage in the process.

are you seriously entertaining the idea that this product has any benefit as regards to your fitness?
the first thing that sets off warning bells is the word 'tone', the second thing is that the advert spends more time looking at that girls small 'toned' ass than actually explaining how the product works an the scientific research behind it.
its just another marketing gimmick cooked up to fool morons into buying new an expensive trainers.

That's a little bit like me claiming that new set of weight lifting gloves will increase your bicep strength by 40% and benching by 20%.
It's just a tool. If you find it more comfortable to run further/faster wearing them - then the claims have a [loose] basis. But the object themselves won't do it for you.
EDIT: I might add - it may in fact work out these muscles more. But it will be at the cost of working others less.

They're not sold as running shoes, and given that they supposedly cause small amounts of instability I wouldn't think they'd be good for running. As shoes for walking, they may have a minor effect, but I wouldn't have thought it'd be any better than walking 28% further Do they publish any proper research to go with their claims?

Yes, your gluteal gluteus maximus (your butt muscles) will get 28% more of a workout and your calves and hamstrings will get an 11% harder workout when you wear EasyTone sneakers or sandals. 28 and 11% more activation when doing what?

Hahahaa, i was never considering buying them, I just wanted to see what you guys thought of them, yeah they dont give any scientific information, as for the percentages it seems they just picked a random number which sounds legit.. to people who are a bit slow.... haha, Yeah I was just in a shop buying some real running shoes, Asics, when i seen these advertised .

I've just got some ASICS myself. They seem like good shoes Got a pair myself, very good, but mine haven't lasted the longest although considering I only spent £30 on them I think 6 months of running is a good return. Going to invest in some New Balance ones when I get round to it.

that product is stupid, if you want shoes that will help your workout buy those without a padding.
better balance when doing squats.

I was thinking about joining the vibram 5 finger craze as I love being barefoot. I wish dread was around, I wanted to say about them after testing them for a year or so. Sketchy cheap ups are way better than the shoe mentioned though

I haven't heard anyone who is a- disappointed with vibram5, or b- thinks it isn't more of a work out. May well be a worthwhile investment. + Where is dread...?
