I absolutely hate cardio workouts. Not the workout itself, but running on a treadmill or on a bike or even down the footpath/sidewalk. I get bored poopless! I've tried an iPod, but too no avail.
Would I still receive health benefits if I split, say 20 mins, into quarters and slipped it in between my other exercises?
For the sake of clarity I am running a circit style routine of free weights, push ups and sit ups.

This would mean 5 minutes of cardio and frankly, this isn't going to help you at all. This is actually how long the warm up alone should be.

It's no rule but it's when for one you start to burn a significant amount of calories and for to keep your heart rate going at the right rate for a good amount of time which leads to health benefits. 30-60 minutes is better, obviously but 20 is a good start. Got nothing to do with any rule, tho.

Not true, in Scooby's videos he's adamant "you MUST do at least 20 minutes", and others have said this as well. This implies some sort of knowledge/research showing this time as a minimum for health benefits. I'm wondering where this "20min" figure came from. I've never heard an explanation.

Scoobys says something like "according to the center for disease control" so I would check on their site.
I am the opposite of you. I LOVE cardio and weights are hard for me. When you run what do you think about? Honestly that could have something to do with it. Also Have you tried listening ot music with POSTIVE MOTIVATING LYRICS? its different then other types.

I have a similar problem in that I hate cardio and find it very boring (though I know it is key to good health and fitness). I mix it up to try to stop it from becoming boring, as routine is probably the killer for me. My dogs are my saviours here, as it's not fair to "just not walk" them due to my own laziness. They each get a 15-minute mile walk at night, which is great for them and gives me my 30 mins of cardio without crushing my knees to powder. It may be routine but it's vital that my loyal companions stay healthy, they just drag me along with them  Some days I also use our cross-trainer (elliptical) in one big 20-minute thigh/heart burster, other days I'll do 10 2-minute sessions through the day. The latter isn't exactly great, but it's better than just sitting on my bum and saying "can't be bothered with a big session, so today I do nothing." Long post cut short - walk dogs if you have them, try varying your routines to stop boredom.

Thats because standard cardio is boring. Interval training passes the time much more easily, and is a more efficient use of time. If you have an ipod or iphone, search on interval training and try one or another of the apps. Something simple like "seconds pro" might be of use if you try the interval route.

10 2-minute sessions probably doesn't do much good. 2 minutes isn't even enough time to get your heart rate up let alone improve aerobic conditioning. Instead of doing a 20 minute session of straight cardio, try a warm up, then alternate 30 seconds max effort with 60-90 seconds moderate effort for 8-10 repetitions, then a few minutes cool down. I guarantee you will get better results and pass the time much more easily.

Hi, yeah, the 10 2-mins thing is a compromise for those super lazy days, where no amount of reason will force you to , they are better than doing nothing and the pace at which I do them does get my heart racing each time. My 20-mins cross-training days are actually, somewhat like you suggest, 10 sets of 1-min race/1-min rest

This cardio plan will certainly be fun here's what you need to do Step 1. Find a buddy who will run with you Step 2. Run with your buddy Step 3. Pretend your buddies a criminal and you are a cop Step 4. Chase him around yelling STOP!!! POLICE Step 5. Wonder why I wrote this out in steps
