If jump rope is cardio. Does that mean that if I jump without a jump rope and pretend I have it counts as cardio?

It is.  If you do'nt have a jump rope, take your socks put some weight inside - like a tennis ball - and jump rope.

That and the jump rope is more for developing coordination, but the work you're doing is about the same.

Hate to burst your bubble, but doing jump rope without the rope is about like comparing a double-under with jumping rope twice.

Jumping rope is far more intense and it's not just the co-ordination aspect. I can't substantiate this any more than saying - try it. I have been jumping rope for years and it simply is not the same. You can still burn calories and get a good workout without the rope, but it will not be quite as effective as with the rope. To  make it more effective, make it into tuck-jumps; or part-tuck-jumps to make them more sustainable.

Yeah.. I said a jump rope is more, not just, for developing coordination. I used to box and worked with jump ropes for quite some time. In regards to purely burning calories, you can make a workout without a rope just as intense, but it will take more will power. It's harder to keep up the intensity when you don't have the rope to jump over and if your mind is not up to the task, you'll start to slack off and slow down as you become more tired. So yes, I agree with Uglok that a workout with a jump rope is more effective, yet that can be offset by your own desire to achieve a goal.

Ok. What else can I do for home cardio and how much and what rests to take if I'm starting out after a long time again?

Since you're starting back up, you'll need a simple, flexible, yet effective workout to start out.

The video below has a very basic at home cardio circuit that actually discusses replacing a jump rope with socks and tennis balls. It also explains how you can advance the workout once you become better. Give it a shot!

And look through some other videos this guy has. He has many at home workouts that are perfect for starting back up and require almost no equipment Smiley

After watching it, I'd say it is definitely a good routine to start out with. I did not even click it when I saw it on YouTube just because I hate the channel SixPackShortcuts LOL. I have my reasons... but anyway, the routine is solid! You should definitely see great results if you put in the effort Smiley
