Hello there Ask Scooby Forums!
I am 15 years old as of yesterday and am suddenly motivated to start working out. I'm pretty much going to completely abide by this as my workout plan: http://scoobysworkshop.com/teen-workout-plan/

I am fairly skinny, weighing only 42~ kgs which works out as 94.79 lbs. I'm just over 162 cms in height. I am going to be doing 20-30 minutes of cardio each day and i will be following the healthy diet/substitution diet.

Anyway, i'm quite unfit for this coming tennis season and i'm wanting fix that by doing these work outs, but i'm also wanting to improve my muscle tone/"get ripped", so to speak. I was reading about the myth of cardio burning muscle, and i came across this:

"If its the only energy source available, your body will burn muscle to survive. Fat is our bodies energy storage device, our gas tank that enables us to survive when food is scarce. If you haven’t eaten anything AND your bodyfat is dangerously low, then your body has no choice than to burn muscle in order to get the necessary energy to keep you warm and alive. What does your body consider dangerously low bodyfat, for males probably 3-5%. In this low bodyfat situation, your body will burn muscle to provide the energy to keep you alive. A very small percent of the population is perpetually skinny (under 3% bodyfat), that is, no matter how much they stuff their face, they cant add an ounce of fat"

I am fairly certain i am one of these people. My questions are, should i focus on getting protein/body fat using the whole GOMAD method or should i just use the substitution/healthy eating diets? Will i burn off the muscle i'm trying to add from these workouts because of my low body fat? Do you have any specific diets you think i should follow?

Thanks a lot in advance!

By the way, this all makes sense to me in my head, but if you're confused about it i'll do my best to clarify!

At your age you shouldn't obsess about your diet, make sure to eat a lot of whole foods , exercise regularly, and have fun while you can.

Hi there!

If you're describing yourself as one of those guys in the 3-5% body fat bracket, then I suggest you really focus on raising your energy intake as you are only 15 and unintentionally reaching such a low % suggests you're not eating enough.

You'll find yourself performing workouts and sports far more efficiently if your not starved for energy.

How much do you typically eat a day?

at 94lbs?

This, everyday.

Or maybe

This also may be a good idea

But to be more serious, Eat, A LOT, don't worry about eating clean or whatever, eat like a pig then eat some more, and then train just as hard.
