Hey there,
i'm wanting to start working out and bulk up, loosing weight wont be an issue for me becuase i currently way 65kg, and im a skinny guy. I understand that nutrition plays a very important part within a workout and bulking up, therefore i heded over to the calorie calculator, and came up with the below results:

Number of meals per day: 6
Calories per meal: 344
Protein: 21g
Crbs: 47g
fat: 7g

Now, here come the questions:
1) Do you agree with the results of the calorie counter, or would you suggest any alterations?
2) The protein (21g); is that what i should be having in each of the six meals and then dont take any added protein (shakes/powder), or do i have that amount with my meal, and on top of that, have the 23g of protein powder in the form of the shakes?

Thanks for the info!
Any help would be appreciated!

    1. i agree with the results, they seem to be quite decent!
    2. and a protein shake counts as a meal by itself, so you either eat some meat with vegetables and watch that you will get 21g of protein or you make a shake that contains 21g of protein and sufficient calories (search the forums, there are a lot of great protein shake recipes)

Thanks for the info and quick response!
However i have another question based on your response to my question 2. If you have a protein shake instead of a meal, where does your calories come from? Thanks!

Thanks again.. however another question has arrived!  Embarrassed
Do you have to be bang on the recomended amount, for exampe it says i should have 330 calories nd 21g protein, could i have a protein shake that has 320 calories, and 33g protein? would it make a huge difference? how about for carbs and fat? you you NEED to have the recomended amount, or can you get away under/over the allowance? and finally is there an importance order, for example choose protein over calories, or cars over fat? Thanks!

of course! every person has to make his own shake based on his personal requirements. so if you need 320 calories and 33g of protein per meal make a shake with 320 cals and 33g of protein. so yea, it will make a huge difference but in a positive way Smiley

you dont necessarily NEED to have the recommended amounts, scooby's numbers are recommendations only but do what you think works best for you. everyone has his very own requirements/preferences. try out different ways and see how you feel.

for the last question, there is no order, only that fat is the last thing you wanna have! but protein, calories and carbs are all equally necessary and your meals have to be well balanced.

Seriously man if losing weight isnt a issue for you just start wolfing down food every day. Dont do it til your gut is about to explode but you are going to start noticing the more you workout and get stronger your appetite will increase.. Just listen to your body
