Deer meat is a good lean meat, I see no reason why this is not good for nutrition. Unless someone else corrects me in this forum, I think you are good to go.

I'd even say keep the fat, it's natural and it's important! But yes, deer and game in general is considered very healthy.

Deer and wildgame meat is much more nutritious and organic that standard grocery store meat..
The meat is free of unatural hormones, or feeds, or byproducts.. Its how meat should be. keep the fat too. Your only real danger, is that the meat is not checked like USDA prime beef is.. so you will need to process it correctly, and freeze it for at least a period of time, to kill any parasites that may or may not be a problem..
I love to take a deer or hog and make jerky and steaks, and I will run a lifting program and pretty much eat just deer for my protein..
I live in Texas, where are you located?

west tn. 2 hours both ways to nashville and memphis. a litte town called bruceton. patrick willis (plays for the 49er's) came from here. we make a lot of jerky. we only use the back strap and tenderlion as steaks and the rest is jerky. and we sit it in salt water in the freezer for 2 days and they marinate it for a day before we make jerky.
there is not any big deer out here. i just killed a 10 point the other day but thats the biggest i have ever seen. the guy i hunt with has only got a 8 point but that was in the 1990s. you get any big deer out in texas? i see a lot on tv.

I wish I had the opportunity to hunt deer, field dress and process them, and have venison available year-round from that. It's more biologically available than beef, and as mentioned you're not getting hormone-injected, grain fed, industrial output.

Deer is similar to steak (protein wise). Wild animals for meat protein is the best because they are not being fed shitty food. They eat the natural food that they should be eating and are more healthy then store meat. While meats in stores have toxins in the fats and on the skins, unless you get organic or USDA verified. Also, grass fed animals have a better balance of your essential fats (omega 3s and 6s). Try and get some wild bunny they are loaded with protein. Rabbits cholesterol level in rabbit meat is much lower than chicken, turkey, beef, and pork. Make sure you have a good balance of nutrition. You have to have your protein, carbs, and dietary fats at a good balance.

You can raise rabbits at home pretty easily, 2 does and a buck don't take much space and you can raise around 200 pounds of meat a year from 12 pounds of horny, furry fun. motherearthnews.com has some good articles on raising meat rabbits; you can control what they eat and get high quality protein that way, but if you treat them like pets it might be tough to "harvest" the offspring every couple months! It's a good option though if you live in a sub/urban area where livestock normally isn't allowed. Just make sure the neighbors don't see you slaughtering your "pet rabbits" in the garage or they might freak out!

USA, there is a deer season of a few weeks, depending on the weapon used. So bow season, muzzleloader, and rifle seasons. There's also a limit as to how many you can get. I have a cousin who at age 14 in high school, had a school sponsored deer hunt where they got to go out with parent approval. The state of Texas is a bit more progressive in that realm. But you can hunt say 2 decent sized bucks and have several hundred pounds of venison that'll last you the rest of the year. Or you can take the other extreme and get 2 rabbits, a buck and 2 does, and raise little bunnies in your house to get about 200 pounds a year. It's odd, but I can still imagine the smell of squirrel from when my dad and I would hunt them when I was little. Skinning a meal at age 7 must leave an impression!

i forgot about this. my family ended up with 17 deer this season. i only got one but it was a ten point. my girlfriends dad got 13 of them. but i eat a ton. i need to quit so i can lose body fat but i am always so hungry. i ate 4 12 ounce deer steaks. then some slaw and 2 baked potatos. anyone know how i can control my eating? i can eat all day long and not feel fool. i used to be real fat when i was little but then i shot up real quick. if i could eat less i could lose some of this belly fat and thigh fat. and here is west tn you could only kill 3 bucks a season and all the doe you want all day long.

Including 3 cups of fibrous vegetables with every meal would likely do the trick!
