I usually go for a bowl of vanilla ice cream and I add a banana, nuts and berries. Once or twice a week.

I feel like crap for a few days if I go to McDonalds  Tongue

What is this cream of ice and McDonalds you speak of?

Wow, Scooby really is like the Gandalf/Yoda/Mr. Miyagi of health. That was some awesome advice, as always.

I usually eat cheat food randomly and it's not really part of a scheduled plan, more like something looks really good and I eat it. It's never something totally awful like a Big Mac meal or pint of Ben & Jerry's, but it gets fairly bad, like maybe a sandwich from Quiznoes or Subway (with cheese! Sometimes even with a little ranch dressing!).

After doing this I will make a conscious effort to not eat crap for at least a few more days, longer if possible. I'll also usually skip a meal after this since it's usually around 600+ calories. Maybe I'll have a protein shake or something in place of that meal.

Still don't drink soda with it, but I drink alcohol occasionally. Low calorie options (vodka soda, straight whiskey, etc), but still not great.

This is where bodybuilding is as much an art as a science, you really have to know yourself well.  Cheat too often and you will get fat, dont cheat enough and you might end up doing unhealthy binges and lose any progress you have struggled to achieve.  How often to have cheat meals is also dependent on where you are in reaching your goals.  Somebody whose weight and bodyfat percentage has been stable for years can have more cheat meals because they have a track record of keeping their bodyfat percentage in check. For someone who has a lot of bodyfat to remove you need to be more strict.  For someone like this, a whole bad-food-day is too much.  In one day you can negate an entire week of eating well.  I would suggest keeping it to one specified day a week (like Saturday).  If you dont use it, you lose it!  I would also keep it to one meal and dont go hog wild, just enough so you dont feel deprived.  If one meal isnt enough, maybe add one meal on another day.  I also suggest making your cheat-food meal either a breakfast or a lunch but not dinner.  The reason is this gives you time to burn off the excess calories rather than going to bed with it sloshing around in your stomach.  If you can do your daily cardio after your cheat meal, not before.

    hope that helps

    S
also was a really helpful one for me. Thanks! This is something I have been wondering about. I think I will just not cheat until I get my six pack lol. Like you said i will just wait till my body is more stable.

I used to stick to my nutritional programme every single day all year round but then i read about "refeed days" where you intake a unusually large amount of carbs on one given day to literally "refeed" your muscles with glycogen. I then did more research into 'cheat days' and read an article suggesting that once you have been on a calorie controlled diet for some time you need one day of excess calories every now and then to 'kick your metabolism into a higher gear' so to speak.

Anyone got any thoughts?? Could be rubbish but i found the article intresting

(anyone wants to read the article i found it here: http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/sclark39.htm)

I myslef have been at 4% bodyfat for around a year now with my weight going up by about 10lbs a year so i allow myself to cheat on one meal (always saturdays  Smiley) every three weeks. Whether physiologically benficial or not it keeps me sane. The only problem i have with it is that i REALLY want it to be dinner which as Scooby has already pointed out is the worst meal to replace with cheat foods. I always compensate by doing extra cardio the next day before i eat ANYTHING  Smiley

I personally have a function on my weighing scales that tests it but there are other ways too. No way is 100% accurate but you can get a good idea. You can find ones on the internet that calculate it on the basis of your height, weight, often BMI, measurements such as neck, chest and waist etc. or i believe you can buy body fat caliper thingys that measure it from skin folds.

If you're at 4% body fat and gaining 10 lbs of muscle a year you're doing something right so I probably wouldn't worry about cheating once every three weeks, even if it's dinner. Even if you go overboard that one meal, I think the results would be negative, but won't destroy your physique if you keep doing whatever you have been doing.

If you want that one cheat meal, you deserve it after all of your hard work. If you feel that it makes you physically uncomfortable and you don't want it, then skip it I guess, but it sounds like you enjoy it so keep it up  Grin
