http://www.globalhealthandfitness.com/sugar.htm

Hey Everyone, this website has a post that I would like someone to read over. I would like to talk to someone about it in the hopes of learning more about sugar. I think it is a worthy topic. I put sugar in everything and if what this guy says is true, I could just cut all of the sugar (that I add) out of my home cooked meals and I would be able to lose weight faster.

i dont have time to read that article at the moment, but i bookmarked it and will as soon as i get a chance.

all i can say tho is that if you eat the same as you do now, and simply leave out the sugar you put on everything- that you will lose weight faster.

sugar is a refined carb, and contains 4 calories per gram. every gram of sugar you dont eat is 4 less calories consumed.. and if fat loss is your goal then you shout cut all the unnecessary calories you can!

also, sugar- being a simple, refined carb- is high on the glycemic index and carries a heavy glycemic load. consuming it causes blood sugar spikes and lows, which isnt good. im not a pro on this subject.. but my basic understanding is that when your blood sugar spikes due to consuming sugar, your pancreas has to secrete insulin and glucagon in order to regulate your blood glucose. this is normal, but constant blood sugar highs due to consuming unnecessary amounts of sugar basically causes your pancreas to work overtime, and wears down its ability to regulate blood sugar in turn, your bodies ability to metabolize carbs. the result of this is.. surprise! surprise! diabetes. also, if your pancreas is weak not working properly it will affect its ability to control intestine acidity.

not saying any of this will happen to you- i know nothing about your diet. and obviously everyone eats sugar, and its fine in moderation.. but imo theres no need to add sugar to anything, especially if youre trying to lose weight.

Sugar is chemically evil.  Fructose specifically is a "poison" according to this research doctor from UC Berkley.

    Sugar: The Bitter Truth

I watched this 3 or 4 times to try and follow all the chemistry.  This is the "straight poop" on sugar.

I can only say WTF. I'm not bothered to watch the video but if fructose is poison then we shouldn't eat any fruits. And that's just bull.

If you watch the video (i know its long) the Doc explains how fiber in fruit helps negate the negative effects of fructose.

His quote is something along the lines of "nature packaged the cure with the poison"

I'm hesitant to resurrect an old topic, but not keen on starting a brand new one which covers old ground either.

I'm a training astrophysicist with a secondary interest in biochemistry, and this video is extremely important.

Fructose follows the exact same pathways as Ethanol, but is not metabolized by the brain. As Dr Lustig points out, it's alcohol without the buzz, meaning it does the exact same damage to your body.

Of course, packaged with fibre it is fine, but processed sugar is tremendously damaging.

One of the biggest and most dangerous ideas is that sugar is "empty calories". When it comes to fructose, that simply is not the case.

None of us, I'm sure, gobbles processed sugar, but it's important to re-iterate just how damaging it is to us.
