    Hey guys,

With temperatures finally dropping to acceptable levels of chilliness in the evenings, I've been inspired to make some stew reminiscent of my childhood; hearty, thick, and filling =)

    Ingredients/Macros
    1.5lbs lean stew beef = 840 calories/138g protein
    1 tablespoon olive oil = 120 calories
    1 can of white kidney beans (~350g) = 360 calories/24g protein
    300g shredded cabbage = 90 calories/5g protein
    1 medium onion, diced (~300g) = 120 calories/3g protein
    Water (4-5 cups)
    Spices to taste:
    -Salt/Pepper
    -Garlic
    -Cumin*
    -Chili Powder**

*Cumin quickly becomes overpowering, use carefully
**I LOVE spicy food, so I added a lot of this, but be careful, as it is also powerful.

Macro totals for this dish come out to 1530 calories/170g protein.

    Directions

Add beans, cabbage, onions and water (you may not need 5 cups, just add enough to create a broth) to a medium-large pot over low heat.  In a separate pan, add olive oil and put over medium heat to allow oil to heat up.  When the oil is just below smoking point, add in the stew meat (thoroughly defrosted of course) and allow to brown.  When the meat has browned, add the entire contents of pan (oil and juices included) into the pot with the beans/vegetables.

Add spices to taste and allow to simmer/reduce for at least an hour.  The longer you let it simmer, the more it'll reduce and thicken to be more and more delicious.  Enjoy =)

Can you give estimates on the qty of the spices?

    It was a fairly large amount, and I love spice, so it was several shakes from the large spice containers.  If I had to estimate, I'd say;

    -1 tbsp salt
    -1 teaspoon black pepper
    -1 tablespoon cumin
    -1 tablespoon garlic (minced)
    -4 tablespoon chili powder

Then I added a nice couple cracks of salt on top of each bowl =)

Looks good man. What would the macros be for an average serving size?

This recipe split up into 3 nice sized bowls.  So roughly 1/3 of the total macros posted above.
