My favorite oatmeal recipe is 1/2 dry old fashioned oats cooked with skim milk, a tbsp of cocoa powder and the stevia sweetener and 1Tbsp of peanut butter. Reese's oatmeal in the morning, great energy booster for when I workout after.

There are two kinds of oatmeal: Steel cut=> takes longer, needs to soak up for 24+hrs. Different texture and feel some like it some don't. Example is McCanns' Irish Oatmeal Crushed or Rolled Oatmeal=> rather cut the kernel in two, it's flattened between two heated stones. The most common oatmeal you will find aka Quakers' Oatmeal. Old Fashioned oatmeal is just flattened, quick cooking varaiant is steamed and cut up into smaller flakes to make cooking faster (more surface area) Oat plant to the left becomes this:

Any oat style will do, it boils down to how you go about cooking them. Best Oatmeal| Soak for a day or over night (greatly improves the texture and you shouldn't get gas) then cook it on the stove- see the link I have above from ChowHound but you can be creative with it. http://www.chow.com/stories/11620The microwave is just the wrong way to do it, nothing to do with a health perspective just you get the convenience with the worse rubber, gelatinous feel and the taste sucks. As of right now I'm eating oatmeal from the microwave which I should kick myself in the butt for that

Outmeal info:
If I could only choose one source of complex, starchy carbohydrates for a fat loss program, this would be it! Oatmeal is the one carbohydrate food that virtually 100% of all bodybuilders and fitness models eat on a daily basis. What makes it so great? Well, although it’s a starchy carbohydrate, oatmeal has a nice balance between carbs, protein and good fat. A half a cup contains 3 grams of fat, 27 grams of carbs and 5 grams of protein. The low glycemic index, combined with the presence of protein and fat makes oatmeal a very slowly released carb – exactly what you’re looking for when you want to get lean. Make sure you choose the all-natural oats; either old-fashioned oats (such as Quaker) or the quick oats. Stay away from the sweetened and or flavored oatmeal packets. Oatmeal is delicious with natural (sugar free) applesauce and cinnamon. Or, try some crushed walnuts or flaxseeds in your morning oats, which will give your “porridge” a nice crunchy texture while adding those desirable “good fats” we all need. For a complete meal, try a couple scoops of Vanilla Praline flavored protein powder in your oatmeal. If you get tired of oatmeal, there are plenty of other cooked whole grain cereals in the “oatmeal family.” Look in your local health food store (or a gourmet supermarket) for barley, wheat, titricale, rye, oat bran and flax cereals (or a multi grain combination of the above).

Oats do well with the sweet stuff. Nice to see so many different ways to fix Oatmeal. Personally, unless it's got something on it, water cooked oatmeal reminds me of the food from the matrix: grey gruel. That would be almost enough to make me want to go back and take the blue pill right there . Apart from the obvious protein powder and oats, I like to mix my oats with some scrambled egg whites, throw in a little bit of water, microwave until oats are soft, and season with salt and pepper. Ends up as a satisfying savory meal that has enough body to really hit the spot.
