Both are sweeteners.

If you are trying to limit your carb intake, and looking for an artificial sweetener - I consider them to be preferred ones.
If you don't have a reason for such restrictions, there are more natural paths you can go down (i.e. real sugars)

Just avoid them they are not natural so they cant be good for you. I have done a lot of reading and found that it has been known to cause inflammation and cancer in tissues in lab rats. Just stick with regular sugar Smiley

Here is a link to a site which talks about artificial sweetners and MSG, and also a video of a neurosurgeon who has done extensive research on this:

I wouldn't consider them to be the same thing named differently
All three are very different chemicals... what they have in common is that they are all artificial sweeteners.

there are some studies that show asparatame to be a neuro-toxin.
I'm unaware of any negative studies for sucralose (Splenda), and haven't noticed any about acesulfame-k.

As I said earlier - if your body can tolerate natural sugars, those are likely healthier.
(Mine cannot, so I choose to use artificial sweeteners at times.)

Saccharin was a artificial sugar than it was getting to much heat so the corporations made a rebranding to aspartame. Sucralose is aspartame read on the web these are all the same thing but different branding.

If your body can't accept anything natural why would anything artificial and synthetic be any better? Just doesn't make sense ...

Try again....  Please do some actual research, not just use bro-science.

These are all *very* different chemical compounds, not just re-branding of the same thing.
Sucralose http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sucralose    (Splenda)
Saccharin http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saccharin
Aspartame http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspartame  (Equal, NutraSweet, and Canderel)

Each is branded by different companies, and goes by a number of names....
(If lists are helpful, I'm happy to provide a few for each.)

So far as why some can tolerate artificial ones better than natural...
it has to do with Glucose Intolerance....
Biochemically, none of the three above sweeteners break down to raise one's blood glucose.
Table Sugar  (Sucrose) does...

AFAIK, aspartame was found to cause brain cancer in rodents, but no human trial has ever shown a link to cancer, or any other serious disease.

The rodent studies used extreme dosages that it would be impossible for any human to ingest that amount of aspartame.

Agreed.  Of the easily available artificial sweeteners on the market today, aspartame is the one that seems to have the most uncertainty about it's safeness.

Sucralose appears to be the safest from all trials that I have read.

Unfortunately (for me), one of my favorite beverages (Crystal Lite) is sweetened with aspartame - so I haven't managed to completely eliminate it (yet).... but I do considerably limit my consumption of it.
They have released some new flavors that are sweetened with Stevia (a natural plant extract) - so I've been hoping to see a newly formulated strawberry flavor become available.
