I did some reaserch and some claimed that taking amino acids instead of protein shakes (whey protein) will cause greater muscle growth. What is your view on this? If you had to choose, without considering the price which would you buy?

Protein shakes are better. The absorption will be better and you wont have to worry about 'take it on an empty stomach, don't take the tabs together or they will compete for consumption' etc. Not to mention all the money it will cost.

amino acid supplements are usually for extremely fast absorptions. this means they are best right before or while the workout, but not on any other time.

Most popular protein powder mixes come with BCAA additives.  So be careful if you are doubling up.  On protein is one that contains BCAA so does the natural one I have.

the bcaas are a part of protein... the difference between protein supplements and bcaas supplements is that all amino acids are chained into the protein in it's case, but in bcaa supps they are in a free form and can be adsorped much faster. mixing both the supplements won't cause problem, but in case of natural athletes it is not going to give you any benefit -> waste of money.

Whey naturally contains high amounts of BCAAs. If more are added then you definitely don't need to be taking l-aminos. Supplementing glutamine, for instance, is useless!

No, it is not. Glutamine is, but NOT BCAA's

applicating glutamine correct isn't easy, but it is useful if you use it correct.

especially in diets glutamin and bcaas become your best friends.
