Hi I've just started taking creatine, (6th day today) 5g a day first thing in the morning. I have experienced some mild side effects I read about before and I was wondering if these will occur all the time or gradually go away. I've had some slight stomach cramps that come on for about 20 mins a day and go, usually when I pass wind. Some short but intense heartburn/acid reflux pains and mild constipation. Will I experience these for the rest of my creatine days or is it because my body needs to adapt?
Also, there's no point making a new thread, another question. When will I start noticing the 'energy' effects of it? I haven't loaded it, just 5g a day

stay well hydrated. What type of creatine are you taking and what are you taking it with ? You may not notice any big effects from creatine supplementation but give it some time. lastly can you think of any other factors. Diet maybe ?

Creatine is connected to dehydration and muscle cramps. Both can be prevented by sufficient water intake as well as making sure to get your electrolytes in (milk and bananas are great sources). The rest you're experience is something I have never seen before in connection to creatine, tho.

Creatine Monohydrate (MyProtein) with 500ml water. Yeah, I'll take it for a couple of weeks and if I don't notice a big difference in weight lift gains, then I'll stop and just stick to whey. Thanks

Does it fully and completely dissolve in your water? Just asking because when I took it it would only dissolve in hot beverages so I wasted one cycle because of not benefiting from a non dissolved creatine (obviously).

When I made it in a mug it wasn't 100% dissolved, you could see some small bits of it (smaller than a grain of sand) so now I just make the mix in a bottle and shake the hell out of it until it's completely clear

Yeah, making sure it's properly dissolved will fix the stomach problems. If it's not combined properly with the water/coffee w/e, it won't be absorbed and can cause the stomach pains etc.

Coffee? I heard you're not meant to take caffeine like 10-12 hours after creatine

The idea that caffeine inhibits creatine absorption was based on the findings of one study that was unable to reproduce the same effects in following testing, implying that caffeine in fact does not hamper the benefits of creatine. Same with creatine timing. As it is a mostly cumulative effect (muscular saturation), the timing of creatine ingestion is not altogether important, though some findings have pointed towards higher absorption rates with insulin spikes (high carb intake).

I had to get off creatine because it was giving me acne, but since I struggled with acne my entire childhood I'm probably more prone to it than most people But yeah thats the only side effect I've noticed taking it, was on it for a good couple of months, it's different for everyone
