Can't tell if youre facepalming the thread or my last post Nicky?

Both I guess - and don't get me wrong, I don't want to create any discomfort since you're new and all.
But messing with your health for some extra proteins instead of having a nice steak/eggs/cottage cheese/you name it? Is it worthy?

We tend to rely on those protein powders way too much and in the end, it's not gonna do shit.
I mean proteins are good, protein is the best macronutrient that mother nature gave us, no doubt about that. But all this powders...and all this fear for not having enough proteins, it's just stupid in my book. And this stupidity tends to bring other stupidities - like taking expired products that can mess up your whole system.
For what? An extra pound of muscle? Seriously...

I totally agree on the supplement thing that it gets relied on way (no pun intended) too much. I serve loads of people that believe that taking a protein supplement will make you faster/stronger/leaner/magic, but dont put in the effort for it to be any use. My logic for the expired things is why would you buy the same thing twice, when you already have a perfectly good one handy and unopened. Don't get me wrong, im not gonna eat a slice of bread covered in mould, or drink sour milk.

I once asked a coca cola rep why they put best before dates on water. She said they do it for stock rotation,so a smaller business that might not have a huge turn over would have to continue to buy fresh products as they ran out of date.

I found some atheletes foot cream the other day in the house. I used it without looking at the expiry date. Was the best stuff id used for it, one of the only things that had totally cleared it up. turns out it expired in dec 2004, and had been opened since way before then. I'm still alive today horah....

But back to the over use of whey protein...totally agree with you. Much better to get your protein from natural sources.

I used expired drugs too but that's only because I didn't look for the expiry date (still alive as well Cheesy ).
But more to the point; the thing is, knowing that the product has already expired and still wanting to take it. That, is idiocy because you don't know the side effects that you can get. (For the story, I once took expired aspirin, I regretted the following 2 weeks)

Plus the fact that powders got traces of heavy metals inside, that alone can make me want to burn those powders and kill the guys responsible for it.

OP one this is to go pass a dew days or a week, other thing is 1 year, dont consume it, expiration date means it shouldnt be consumed past that date, even after 1 week there is always a risk, much less 1 full year.

"best consumed before" just for knowledge means the product is at its prime (with all the nutrients, etc etc, ) before that date, afterwards the maker states that it will start to loose quality.

I work in a pharmacy/heathfood shop that sells sports supplements. Every now and then stuff goes out of date, and I'm luck enough to have it for free.

Ive eaten everything from beans&rice to whey powder and vitamins, all out of date.

As long as it was sealed it'll be fine. if it was gone off youd know about it. i have underfloor heating in my house, and if you leave any tubs of whey on the floor they go off so quickly. gone off whey powder smells like sour milk. if it smells of the flavour its supposed to be, its cool. ps. this is my first post, been a lurker on this forum for ages!

dude, really? can't say it is true or you just try to find out the answer too lol  Grin
