Whey protein is simply the dehydrated byproduct of making cheese from milk. If someone claims it's not safe, ask them if cheese is also off limits, or if avoiding all dairy in general would work.  Grin

Just don't overboard on protein levels, 1g per pound lean mass is plenty, and you don't need to eat 6 meals a day. If you can meet your calorie and macro goals with 2-4 meals then that works too. Scooby's info site has been updated and shows a chart of different styles, although he prefers 6 meals a day as "the best", others would say the difference if any is very small.

It's actually considered to be a waste product before. But it's perfectly safe to take whey. It's not like it's steroids or anything that's bad for teenagers! It's just the dehydrated liquid part of milk when separated from the curds (cheese or casein if you like) after bringing the milk to a boil. I don't get why people think that supplements are dangerous!

I am not an 'experienced bodybuilder' here but it's just my two pence (or cents Tongue  )

The main and only reason for you to take protein powder is you can't consume your required amount of protein in the day. Protein is one of the nutritional requirements for every single person including a new born baby  and an old man. As a bodybuilder or a lifter, you are required more protein in your diet to aid muscle tissue repair, nothing else. Whey or any form of protein powder doesn't have any toxic or growth stunting ingredients, protein is not a hormone, protein is not a steroid.

Short, it is perfectly okay to take protein powder even if you are a teen. But, I highly recommend you take them only when you need them, for example, on that specific day your mom is cooking steaks for lunch and dinner and by the looks of it, you are already getting enough protein without those protein powder, so on that day just don't drink them!! Or, you are having a 1 week break from working out, within that 7 days, not much muscles need repair so you could drink those protein powders for 3 or 4 days out of those 7 days as you don't really need much of them. Get what I mean here?

If you're worry about the ingredients those supplement companies put into them , that's your job to do some research on what protein powder you would buy. But I would highly recommend Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey Protein Isolate Protein Powder. Taste good and affordable  Wink  And not to forget, don't get fooled into buying those overpriced 'research proven' muscletech crap, protein is just protein.

Not all whey protein is safe unless you consider toxins being safe then.... Scooby suggests a good healthy cheap protein powder by Costco.

    Scooby doesn't recommend that...

Problem is that they are all loaded with artificial flavors and sweeteners.  They often have strong artificial smells and odd aftertastes.

Protein from Costco and bulk stores are dirt cheap, but don't expect it to be healthy.

He recommends organic whey, but they are really expensive.

If you can afford it, the organic isolated whey proteins are the best.

the first whey protein powder i had was dreadful
chocolate  , tasted and looked like dirty/muddy water and give me alot of gas
the best results ive had is  strawberry mass gainer, all in one chocolate  and plain whey protein ( this is the best as you can mix it with everything and wont really notice )

If it's not good then why would he have it on his site? Not saying it is good but that would be pretty lame of him to post a shitty protein source.  Undecided

I think going natural is the best way. You can take a small meal with you at work or in class to get the necesary protein.

honestly i wouldnt take em, how are supplements not safe? well, our food is regulated and its regulated horridly, a supplement company can put pretty much nothing but rice flour and a table spoon of the actual ingredients it supposedly list or hell they dont have to put in what they list because no one regulates them. they are selling you powdered snake oil, if you are gullible go ahead and spend all your hard earned money on supplements from companys that are trying to screw you out of that money.

Srsly have you guys ever even taken whey before? Whey as in 100% whey. It's safe for teens if it's a almost pure whey isolate/concentrate.
