Here are three foods/supplements that I strongly believe every bodybuilder over the age of 18 should be using:

Protein Powder, isolated whey (Please read Protein FAQ)
Ground flax seed or fish oil
Green tea (not pills, just real brewed tea - no sweeteners or whiteners)

Here are supplements that many other people think are valuable, but I am less optimistic about. You need to do research and decide for yourself. In my opinion, the below supplements might give you a 5% edge - not worth the money or potential health risks:

  Creatine (Please Read Creatine FAQ)
  Beta-alanine
  Glutamine
  Taurine
  Tyrosine
  Multivitamins

Todays muscle mags are packed with page after page of incredible sounding supplement advertisements with amazing testimonials and jaw-dropping before & after photos. Let the buyer beware! The basic rule to remember when choosing supplements is that if it sounds too good to be true, it is! Adding muscle is a slow and difficult process, if anyone tries to make it sound quick and easy then they they are lying. Remember, pro-hormone supplements are illegal. Anything that claims to have "steroid like results" is either lying or illegal.

If you insist on buying supplements, get your moneys worth!  Before you consider plunking down your hard earned money for any supplement, even creatine, you need to know exactly what it is and precisely what it does for you.  If you dont know this then you will fall for the unscrupulous manufacturers making their ridiculous, wild-hype claims!  If you are going to take supplements, buy a good, impartial supplement guide.  Not only will it help you from wasting your money things you dont need but it can help you sort out all the hype-BS that supplement manufacturers spew out.

I am pro-steroid, but I believe I'm too young to use them (19yo).

As for supplements, I always kinda stayed clear. As you said, Scooby, it's risky picking a good one out of a whole lot bad ones.

hi there scooby, first of all i just want to sincerely thank you for putting up all of your helpful tip and techniques for us to see, and also the correct information. some quacks just put up a bunch of &*@^*@# showing off their bodies trying to get some views.

second of all, to introduce myself, my name is tony, im 19 as of 09, and im 6'2'' weighting at 200lbs. umm ive been going to the gym since the ending of 7th grade and until now, ive def. seen myself grow tough mentally / physically. But i seem to plateau quiet often. i do switch up my workout routines every two weeks but thats because i just sometimes forget to switch it up, haha. and im actually gonna go to the gym right now, and try some of your back exercises and your shoulder exercises!!! im really excited.

well, in one of your shoulder work out videos, you mentioned that if you(viewer) hate to eat breakfast, then intake a glass of oj with protein powder. but.... what type of protein powder? im currently using nitro core 24, and that has a choco taste to it.. so im guessing if youre mixing oj with protein it must be a tasteless powder?

maybe you can suggest me what you might be using?

and another question, if you dont mind reading please, what is your take/ thought on creatine. such as n.o-xplode or other plain creatine supplements? my trainer/boss suggest that all muscles should be built naturally to get a full humanly look. and i 100% agree with what he has been telling me for the last 4 years after he got me my first protein powder case. but i also want to take advantage of those supplements that are available.

i still have a lot of baby fat on me... in my opinion... and it seems like slowly right now, im starting to get a 3rd growth spurt? almost like my muscles are going through puberty?!?! haha sounds funny doesnt?

well once again, thank you for all the videos, i swear im going to go over everything there is, except the for the beginners one. cuz im done watching those Smiley

hope to hear from you soon scooby!

    your new student/friend,

You might benefit more than you think from the "basics" section. Most people that take up bodybuilding just go to the gym and do what they find fun. Not a lot of them take some time to actually sit down and study-up, so most "bodybuilders" have a lot of bad ideas when starting, and those ideas tend to stick until the end.

As for Scoobys take on creatine, here is a quote from his supplement section:

    Quote
Want to be a human guinea pig? Not only are you trusting that the product that you think you are buying is safe and effective but you are gambling that the company is putting into the bottle what they say they are.  After years of not using any supplement other than protein powder, I decided to see what the buzz about the new creatine product was about as I had heard from numerous friends about strength and size gains from it.  I decided to give in and try it for a month, how harmful could a creatine product be?  Well, it cost me $650 in medical bills to find out.   After three weeks of using it I had a routine physical and full blood test which discovered that my liver function was 10X normal meaning that my liver was working overtime cleaning some toxic crap out of my body.  After a liver ultrasound and several other expensive tests later, the only possible cause remaining was the creatine product.  Although I didn't go to the expense of having the product itself tested for toxic impurities, I'm convinced they are there.  Anyway, shame on my for not listening to my own advice!

    @MI_Dave:
    Yes, I am serious.

A year ago, I convinced myself that it was stupid of me to have an opinion on something I know nothing about (I was anti-steroid than). After doing a lot of research, I concluded that steroid when used alone and not in proper cycles and under doctors supervision, are dangerous. But combined with Durabolin (so that they don't convert to estrogen) and some other medication (especially the once used to restore normal hormonal function after the cycle), used in proper cycles and under the doctors supervision are very safe.

So, please, if you want to have an opinion on something, do a lot of research from various sources. Don't trust one site and/or bad public propaganda.

Anyway, if you read carefully the "Steroids and Supplements" section on Scoobys website, you will find that our Guru has a similar point-of-view on steroids.

BTW Steroids are not illegal to poses in my country, but for those of you from US, I suggest to stay clear. They are good, but your laws make it not worth-a-while.

even if they were legal, i still wouldn't touch steroids.  There are plenty of people here in the USA who risk prison by taking them illegally and the majority opinion is that they look physically ridiculous, are branded as "cheaters" and are almost never used under a doctors supervision.  Why anyone would risk irreversible hormonal side effects ie. testicular shrinkage, gyno., etc. is beyond me.  I know, proper PCT bla bla, but what if you get it wrong?  I would rather look natural, get compliments rather than sneers and save $$$  Cool

Heya Scooby, want to ask about ANATOR P70.
On your website www.scoobysworkshop.com ( a clean mean no BS site which i love btw Cheesy) u claim it is all BS, i provide a NZ site that promotes this product and other anabolic non-steroids. I would really like your no BS input to the "research" provided below
    http://www.punchsupplements.co.nz/supplements/muscletech-anator.html.

My understanding is it is a supplement that prolongs the post wrkout anabolic phase of recovery, thus reducing regression into catabolism similar to HALO:
    http://www.punchsupplements.co.nz/supplements/muscletech-anabolic-halo.html

    Would really appreciate your opinion

Hi Scooby i have been checking out all of your information for weeks now, im a big fan now. i just found your forum. i do have a quick question for you or anybody else who has an opinion

i just bought the 6 pound bag of protein you showed on your site from cosco. its good but it does have some artificial stuff in it.

i just noticed your protien of choice is on sale from amazon for 40 bucks for the 5 pound tub, so i think ill try it and possibly switch over

my question is has anyone tried the strawberry flavor? of scoobys choice protein. i would typically go for the chocolate flavor just to be safe but i think i want to try the strawberry. and the kind from cosco doesnt have strawberry.

i know its kind of a dumb question but hey i wouldnt mind some feedback on the flavors before i buy. i bought some cheap stuff from GNC a while ago it kinda sucks when your stuck with a couple pounds of something that could be better

Personally i have one protein shake a day which is whey protein

It contains about 33 grams of protein as well as less than 100 calories

I personally think that whey protein is a good supplement as well as eating balanced meals to get rest of your protein and daily recommended allowances.

Seems like people are still looking to take shortcuts...

I honestly believe that trying creatine and steroids just isn't worth the risk.
