believe me every bike is good, the price depend on how much you can/will use it . But the best, for me personally, are the mountain bikes you can "ride" them almoust anywhere and since romania has a lots of mountain thats it. greetings from slovenia, been in Trgoviste, Timisoara, Bucaresti and of course on the beautifull coasts of the blac sea in palazu mare (back pack version) bun bicicletă!!!

And here is a glacial lake and i will get there via Transfagarasan road
I think i live in an awesome area ... and only this year i realized that BTW: WELCOME TO THE FORUM!!!(i know you are a member on this forum for a year but that was your first post ) CHEERS!!!

I'd say get whatever you'll enjoy the most, mountain bikes work just fine on the road- my cycling group includes a guy who rides a mountain bike and he still averages over 20mph on the road, keeps up with us just fine but mainly because he's a semi-pro beast lol. But if you have mixed terrain options and it's just for cardio (not to reach point B as fast as possible) I'd go for the mountain bike for versatility. But just starting out, either get a cheaper bike or maybe a used one of higher quality. The really light bikes tend to be a little more fragile (this coming from a 250 pound guy), so as long as it's welded well and you maintain it, you can get 10 years from most decent bikes.

Can you tell me what bike you own?

Currently a trek 1.5, as it was the only model that had a frame large enough for me at 6'6". I do exclusively road riding, as I know I'm clumsy enough that I'd hurt myself trying to ride trails on a mountain bike. When the weather and my motivation allows, I ride to work, usually no more than once or twice a week though when the stars align. That'll be one of my new year resolutions, to commute more often. I've been putting off the "6 pack" long enough, and 2 rides a week will net me an extra 50 miles and help balance out the chocolate and cookies!

Yeah I think that was the only one with a 64cm frame that didn't cost as much as a car... I read my neighbor's cycling magazines and they list "good starter bikes" that cost $3500-5500, and I wonder who is buying things like that? But then I hear a coworker talk about buying a used bike for $4000, that was over $10K new! I like riding a bike, but unless my pay check depends on riding it as fast as possible, no way am I spending over $1000 for a bike, and even that's a lot to me. Saving 4 ounces on a bike when I weigh around 100 pounds more than the typical cyclist isn't worth it.

I have a felt hybrid bike and been loving it. I've bicycled about 2000km already and bought it last Spring. It cost about 500e.

Can you borrow a bike for your first year? That way you could get a better feel what you want. If not, how about getting good quality used bike? You should be able to get one for 1/4 of the new price.
My view of bikes is that the cheap ones are a waste of money because the quality is so low, the mid priced ones are a good value and at the top end you are paying thousands of dollars/Euros just to remove a few grams.

WoW .. Scooby replied to my post I think there is a good idea Scooby , but here in Romania many people want to trick you (at least at buying Second - Hand bikes or cars) I must search some used bikes and see what i find . If i will not find a good used bike i think i will buy the B'TWIN Triban 3 , i've asked many people who own it and almost all told me that it is perfect for a begginer and the price/quality report is ok. +Rep Speaking about Scooby , man you are awesome ! You help a lot of people all around the world free. I wish you all A HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!Regards

The bike you chose seems decent. Sadly, it doesn't have clipless pedals ( the ones that require special shoes). Those are definitely worth it in my opinion, especially if you want to push yourself harder and eventually become good enough to compete or ride with fast people. Just have to learn to ride with the shoes.
If you ask me, it's worth it to buy a better bike now rather than telling yourself that you'll get one later. A good bike will last you 5-10 years, ( or more) so if you buy a lame one now, you'll just have wasted 300e you could have invested in a higher-level racer.
Another worthwhile investment is a speedometer. They don't cost that much and they're fun. Some even come with cadence and heart rate.
Too bad you can't buy used since if you don't like biking, a new bike will lose like half its value the second you start using it.
