Hey all! I do both powerlifting and kickboxing. I really like both of them, but I want to get much better at kickboxing. I was thinking of doing some more cardio for a better condition, and I have a friend who practises with the competition group so he can give me some tips. What kind of cardio should I do for how long and how often, and what should I do about weightlifting?

Thanks!

Why not do kickboxing as your cardio? If you're sparring with someone or just throwing punches/kicks you can really get your heart beat up. As for weightlifting, since you're into powerlifting, follow a solid program like Starting Strength or Stronglifts 3 days a week. On the days you don't lift, practice kickboxing but give yourself at least 1 day of full rest. Also be sure to eat plenty of food and get a lot of sleep in order to recover properly.

    Monday: Bag training
    Tuesday: Lifting
    Wednesday: Technique training
    Thursday: Lifting
    Friday: Sparring
    Saturday: Lifting
    Sunday: Off

Try to get at least 9 hours of sleep

That's a good schedule. Since you will be burning through lots of calories with lifting and doing kickboxing, eat plenty of food. Your increased activity might make it a bit more difficult to build strength so you'll need a lot of calories and the essential macronutrients: protein, carbs, and (healthy) fats.

What's a good, edible source of healthy fats? What about peanut butter?

Yeah peanut butter, or any type of nut, usually has a good source of fats but isn't an optimal source of protein because eating a lot of it to get enough protein in turn has a lot of fat. Other than nuts, good fats can be found in olives, avocados, canola oil, and olive oil.

Hi! Me and you have similar goals, but I practice Capoeira instead of Kickboxing.
I recently moved to a Capoeira+weighlifting routine. If you're interested you can check the last posts of my diary and maybe get some ideas.

HIIT training man - best way to get in fighting shape fast. Do atleast 2 sessions of 15-25 minutes a week you'll notice you never get tired after about 2 months.
