Can anyone advise me on how to gain muscle through weight lifting, by using an MMA orientated weight program? Is there any other MMA guys here who use the programs on the main site exactly as they are? Or does anyone know of a good total body weight training routine I could follow that specifically involves building fitness for MMA? My goal is to gain muscle while shedding fat, but I need explosiveness so any advice would be appreciated.

I once saw an article on how Randy Couture did total body workouts and trained not to get big but to have endurance and strength. I hope that helps.

for me when it comes to martial arts I focus on strength. I do isometrics that involve punching and kicking like pressing your fist against the wall and pushing as hard as you can for 10 seconds. count that for one set. push ups on your fists to strengthen wrists etc. also shadow boxing while holding light weights (like 1 - 5 pounds) is awesome. Of you wanna gain muscle check out the rest of the forum.

crossfit is pretty good, but if you want to get real conditioning going on, like if you want to get into a cage then go to a pro gym and participate in their conditioning sessions *usually lasts like 2 hours*
