Hello everyone. As you guys know I started out as a bodybuilder and I still am. A couple months ago I started studying Ninpo, which is a martial art. I am having trouble with many of the basic techniques because I am not flexible enough and my muscles are very tight. My goal isn't to get super muscular like Coleman or anything, but rather getting as close as possible to:

    You guys get the idea.

    Now, my questions are:

    1. What can I do to become more flexible?
    2. Would becoming more flexible get in the way of my hypertrophy training?

    Thanks for all your help.

I am also training ninpo but in Bujinkan budo taijutsu. I also lift weights, do calisthenics and perform flexibility exercises.

You should read this, I found it pretty useful: http://www.martialartsplanet.com/forums/showthread.php?t=85373

Also all mobility drills are very useful in both martial arts and weight lifting and they are also part of a healthy body.

Stretching, mobility drills or anything shouldn't really have anything but positive effect on your hypertrophy imo...

    Ninpo brother! haha.
Does Bujinkan require you to study Ju-Jitsu in order to get to Renshi? Currently I'm focusing solely on Ninpo.
    Thanks for the link.

My flexibility is thanks to an article related to the above from tae kwon do magazin.  I've applied it since since 1999. :3

Bujinkan consists of nine different MA schools(ruyha) which of them 3 is ninpo. But anyways, genbukan and bujinkan ninpo teachings both come from Sensei Takamatsu, his students just created those new martial arts based on his teachings. Basically we train lots of the same stuff but in Bujinkan it is much deeper because Takamatsu's teachings about samurai skills(ju-jutsu) etc are also included.

Umm...ours include Jiu Jitsu too. We're just not obligated to take it at the same time as ninpo. But both are required at some point.
