guys, I've been into oly lifting for a little while now, and I'm wondering–do you really need lifting shoes in training.

IM MAINLY ASKING FOR THIS REASON:

during squats, shouldn't you be squatting flat, even with a narrow stance? i know it makes it easier to make your knees come forward, but would doing squats without n elevated heel make you stronger all around?

No, you don't have to have them, but they're good for stability (so mainly for the lifts)
I've been training OLY for half a year, without real shoes, have done lots of squats too Smiley so you should be alright!

Yes, if you plan to compete because it's required.  Else, doing it barefoot is just fine. :3

Why use weightlifting shoes?  The high heels make it easier for the lifter to not strain one's ankles if not flexible, and it's very stable.
