Hi everyone, I don't post here much but love the forum and the advice here has helped me lose 50lbs and get in the best shape of my life - so thankyou for that  Smiley. Anyway, I started playing squash properly about 3 months ago and absolutely love it.

However, I find that sometimes the day after playing my knees and or ankles flare up and become very painful. My friend suggested that I invest in a good pair of squash shoes (which I did) and this helped a little bit, but I still get this problem after probably 50% of games. I find it strange that it doesn't happen every time.

I know that the game is notoriously hard on the joints but surely I shouldn't be having these problems at 24? Just wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to what might be going on or whether there was anything I could be doing (conditioning/nutrition wise etc) to remedy it.

I did see my doctor about this who assured me there was nothing to worry about and that I may have simply been playing too much (I play about 4 times a week which isn't unreasonable), other than that he was quite unhelpful.

Any ideas anyone? Thanks for reading.

I think your doctor is right. 4 times a week squashing seems "a lot". Even if you only play for 30min. Combine that with joints (knees/ankles) who had to cary that 50lbs every second every day a while ago and it's very probable that your joints just can't take it ...

squash s hard on the joints and i also sometimes have joint pain afterwards but i'm very sure that if i would do it 4 times a week it would be 'normal' to have joint pain the day after!

Squash is brutal... almost gladiatorial.. I love it  Evil

    How heavy are you now?

    Whats your BF??

Are you getting enough fish oil in your diet? If not consider tablets.

Is there a conection between the intensity of the game and the soreness the next day?

Or the length of your warm up/warm down?

    Are you warming down?

Maybe I am doing too much too soon, I never really considered 4 times a week to be too often but maybe it is.

    I agree squash is great!

I went from 197lbs at 25+% BF to about 145 at 9% BF now, it was quite quick, too quick perhaps. There doesn't seem to be any connection between the soreness and intensity, my partners and I are all about the same standard (rubbish basically) and sometimes even after brutal games there is no pain and vice versa. I get through alot of fish and also take omega 3 etc daily.

Warm up is usually a good 10/15 mins but I'll be honest, (and I'll probably get flamed for this) warm down is virtually non-existent. The place where I play has a jacuzzi and I'm usually looking to get into the shower and jump in there as quickly as possible after playing lol.

I will look into some good warm down routines!

Congrats on the weight loss! You should post some transformation pics! As for the joints try some fish oil gels.
