I've begun playing soccer more often these days with my friends, so I want to invest in some boots for when I play.

When I was playing on astro today, there were some of my team mates/opponents who played in studs and seemed to be fine, however a quick search around google (couldn't find anything on Ask Scooby) suggests that this would leave me in pain after playing for some reason.

Does anyone have any experience in this matter? All I really want to know is which compromise of the two is preferable:

Turf trainers with slightly less grip on grass,
Or studded/bladed boots with this supposed pain afterwards? Or is the pain theory a lie and I should get boots for sure?

Thanks guys,
Joe

having played on composite (not astro but similar enough) and using rubber studs, I can tell you that yes you will end up in pain. I have had back problems in the past and I jarred my back quite badly (had to use a large amount of co-codamol just to be able to move the next morning). Even others who used rubber studs and never had back pain before felt it after that. Metal studs would be a massive no-no tbh.

Alright, thanks. I got a second opinion from a friend of mine and he basically said the same so I'm gonna stick with ordinary trainers without studs. Thanks for clearing that up for me Smiley

I have  "adidas Predator Absolion PS TRX TF" which can be seen here:

I really like them. This is what you need for turf.

When I played, using long studs was banned on astroturf(obviously suitable for playing on regular grass in certain conditions), small/short rubber studs only. I didn't hear anything about potential injuries, it was more about damage to the astroturf, which is surprisingly expensive.
If you are only playing it for fun and not competitively, you might be best off with trainers.

You're best off using the correct boot for the correct ground...

You'd struggle using full studs on astro but you could get away with using moulds or blades although your feet may 'burn' up a bit!!

That been said in the leagues I play in that play on Astro it is strictly no studs/moulds or blades...

Trainers are ok for a social but you'll struggle to hit the ball as hard and you would be more likely to roll an ankle or slip etc etc.

For grass I'm still using moulds at this time of year, you could prob get away with them all year round

You can get a pair of cheap astros for £12 from Sports direct... so just get a pair, will make you feel better anyway Smiley

My personal favs are Puma Kings but I'm old school!!!

Yeah sports direct is a good bet. Although they didn't have any boots my size, so I had to go up to near on £50 before I found a size that I could actually wear.

Yeah, there's a Sports Direct in my town so that's my first port of call Wink

Their prices are brilliant for what you can get, no complaints from me!
