Hi, I'm an amateur boxer and was looking for more specific weight training. I've been watching scooby's videos for a couple of years and love them and his attitude to training. The only thing is his workouts are for bodybuilding and arn't the kind of exercises that I'm looking for. Don't get me wrong though, in the past when I went to the gym I used slow strict form, but as you may know in boxing you need explosive power rather than big muscles.
I do like the idea of bodybuliding and looking great, so I'm just looking for other exercises that can help me get more explosive power as well as getting in good shape!

    Honestly, if you're a competitive amateur boxer, I would just do a shitload of boxing. You'll still get a fairly muscular look. Or at least lean

    I think strength straining would help the most with boxing. Someone who knows more, should explain better. Roll Eyes

    I practice karate, is not the same but for box and karate you need strenght speed and technic. You can improve your strenght with any of the scoobys workouts, but if you want somethin more explosive i will do some super sets..

    Clappin pushups, basketball pushups, rolling pushups, one handed pushups are great for punching. You can increase the tempo in those exercises to make them more explosive.

    Also neck exercises are great if you are a boxer. The will protect you neck and spine  Grin

    Ding Ding Ding we have a winner!! as a former amateur boxer let me give you the advice!! from the first day you start training at your college or boxing gym you should be ready to start fighting in 7 to 9 months in those months you should be concentrating on nothing but boxing you have no time to worry about other type of training. if i remember correct my training consisted of nothing but warming up and strecthing, push ups,crunches, weighted sit ups, punching the bag for 3 mins 9 times with 1 min rest inbetween lots of jump roping and speed bag, and of course lots of sparring with a fellow boxer. you need to be worried about cardio and the speed and torque of your punches before you even consider adding strength training into the mix.when the 7 or 9 month mark reaches make sure all your first few fights are UNSANCTIONED before you sign up for your local Golden Gloves/USA Boxing associate organizations, i made the mistake of not doing this and racked up a lot of loses into my record and never made it to be considered into a boxing team ;(
