Not doing TKD but i am doing TSD, which is apparantly traditional TKD, im only a white belt, been doing it for about 5 months or so, roughly.
although for a while i been thinking of switching to kickboxing if i can find a good gym that is within my budget.

I did taekwondo off and on as a lad, I got to purple belt... Wouldn't mind getting back into it, and kind of wish I stuck with it.

Sorry to say it, but you were enrolled in a mcdojo, what you did was NOT Tae Kwon Do.

Yeaaah. physically impossible in 2 years bro. Where I was at you had waiting times before you could even test for belts.

yeah you cant get to a first dan that quick, let alone a black belt. The highest you can hope to achieve is probably something around blue or red belt. That is probably with double gradings at the early stage.
how much were you paying BTW?

Yeaaah. physically impossible in 2 years bro. Where I was at you had waiting times before you could even test for belts. Yup, why I said its a mcdojo, where all they want is to take your money. So, in those places its possible, because its all nonsense, damn near throw "ranks" at you. Same people who created pink, camoflague etc belts, ridiculous. Not only that, but TKD regulations state that if you are below 15(or 16,dont remember), you dont get the Dan rank, but Poom. If you were at a real dojang and you graduated for poom/dan, you will have a authenticated certificate stating your rank.

Mcdojo´s then. Took me 7 years of hard work to get my black belt, including a trip to Korea where the trainers(or so I believe) tried to kill me My graduation to 2 dan was a few years later with all korean masters, judging us by the korean standard. I never failed or missed a graduation either. Had to memorize techniques, not only how and why they worked, korean names but also in what situation they were designed for and how to incorporate it into a fight. Had to study korean philosophy and history & background of the art. Then it was the physical tests and technical tests. Everything was tested. And my grandmaster Cho Woon Sup, is one of the most repected ones in Korea. When the south korean president Kim Da Jung got the nobel peace prize, he was requested to and accepted, to be his personal bodyguard.
