hello everyone. i am hoping you can help me with my question. i have been doing scooby's intermediate workout for few months, just started advanced intermediate workout. i went from 24% BF to 21% which is great. I am seeing results anywhere but my lower abs. Fat in that part is just so stubborn that it is discouraging me right now. I do understand that abs are made in the kitchen. I have been educating myself about proper nutrition for last year and a half. And yet, there is no or very little change in my lower abs. What am I doing wrong? Am I just being impatient? I feel stuck. Thank you for any input on this, I appreciate it.

I think you are being impatient. Abs take long time before you see them (In most cases. Especially if you are a woman) so dont worry about it... it seems you got your homework done on how to build those abs Well done. Just work them hard and eat healthy. Maybe give a try to carb-cycling* *If you decide carb cycling, read scooby's website about this subject and ask more questions in the forum. I dont have enough knowledge on the topic. Never tried it so I cant say...

Unfortunately, the body areas where we gain and lose fat is genetically determined; unless you get liposuction, you have no control over where your body stores fat and where it loses the fat from last.
Just keep on working out and eating healthy!

goldie, thank you for your input. are you saying i might never get my abs visible? up until now i thought (based on amy readings) that everyone has abs and can make them visible with proper exercise and nutrition. but after having read lots of topics on this forum today it sounds like some people (especially women) might never achieve that goal! well, that is rather discouraging !! i feel confused as to where the truth lies. having said that, doesn't mean i am going to stop working out but i feel like i should work out much harder. as i mentioned, i am following scooby's advanced intermediate workout now which works abs 3x a week. should i do more than that knowing that that is my 'problem area?' what do you think?? thank you for your time guys

You may be able to see your abs given time, good nutrition, and adherence to a good workout routine. However, in some cases (and this is especially true for women) to get that "6 pack abs" look means you might have to get to dangerously low body fat percentage levels.
Also, the number of "packs" also varies from person to person, depending on genetics. Even some male professional body builders with extremely low competition body fat % only have a 4-pack. See pictures of Arnold Schwarzenegger in his body building competition days.
I'd suggest that you concentrate more on overall fitness levels, and worry less about abs!

ok, i get it, so i might not get nice six pack and i am fine with that but would be nice to get rid of that flab on my lower abs that is just hanging there and not going anywhere. but after i read more on this forum, it seems like we all have some kind of a problematic area where fat lingers longest. bummer. oh well, off to the gym... thank you goldie and everyone. and thank you scooby! by the way i made scooby's poo protein bars yesterday and it was so liquidy that it was impossible to make bars out of it. i wonder what went wrong, i followed his simple recipe needless to say the batter is delicious so it will get eaten no problema there

You have made it from 24-21%. This is an amazing result. But you are struggling the last bit on your lower abs. I believe you have been eating and exercising accordingly to Scooby's plan.
May I know what you're doing for cardio? I walk 1 hour everyday outside and that has given me solid look 6 pack abs in 5 month. I know so many people use treadmills and aerobikes in gym with no result. Gym equipments aren't bad but not as efficient as walking or jogging outside.
And if you don't mind, please tell me about your strength workouts, too. Maybe I could be of some help. Thanks!

Hi my myska,
The guys have given you some really sound advice here.
My tips:
Lower abs exercises such as Roman chair knee ups and leg raises.
Low carb diets have been extreme but worthwhile for me getting down to ridiculous bodyfat levels - refer to "burn the fat feed the muscle" by Tom Venue for more detailed info.
Morning cardio is an excellent way to cut into stubborn bellyfat after you have fasted over night (do it more or less straight away, don't eat) This does require a good amount of sleep. Also mobilises your metabolism for the rest of the day and to supplement this you could ingest some caffeine.
Page from my book of fat burning secrets. Hope this helps.

However, I'm not a big fan of morning run with empty stomach. http://www.scoobysworkshop.com/cardio.htmGetting and keeping in shape is a long run project and it doesn't stop overnight. Morning run is efficient but I still recommend to have a glass of milk or bowl of oats before going out. So that you can walk or run for one hour fully!!! The guys have given you some really sound advice here.

I am not a guy! I agree with omatsu on this one. when i get up in the morning i am so hungry i can not imagine going for a run. i have to eat in the morning . however, i might have to try it if nothing else helps. as far as low carb diet goes, i kinda tried it but it just makes me incredibly hungry. needless to say i am always hungry when i regularly run and do my workout. thank you dashbc for your advice. omatsu- good for you that you got 6pack just by doing regular walking exercise. that is great but it doesn't work for me. i work in the mountains every summer season, i get paid for hiking and carrying heavy loads around and yet i do not have a 6 pack. however, that did help me to go from 24% bf to 21%. (i wonder how accurate this bf measuring device i used at the local gym is. bf and other values are measured early in the morning before any food or water by a device which one squeezes in both hands for a few seconds and tralala, it spits out whole bunch of numbers). whatever it is, i did lose 3% of bf. the caliper is on the way, i will use that to measure my bf next time. yes, i have been following scooby's exercise programs (started advanced intermediate last week). cardio- i run 5kms 5 days a week (on the track, no treadmills), other two days i take one hour long fitness class (step) at the local gym. pretty good work out and a nice change. in last year and a half i have been educating myself about proper nutrition so i do understand importance of right (whole) food, protein, complex carbs, good fats, no sugar etc. thank you omatsu, i truly appreciate your time, if you have any more suggestions, please send them my way

Thank you so much, myska, for your detailed reply. This leaves me a lot of thinking to do. I have a tremendous passion for climbing and I often to walk in the mountains. And I carry lot of heavy equipments with me for rock climbing... Maybe there's gene difference. But I guess it's better first check your accurate BF with caliper then we'll get a better picture. http://www.wikihow.com/Measure-Body-Fat-Using-the-US-Navy-MethodYou could try US Navy method before caliper arrives. This is less accurate but pretty good enough. http://www.scoobysworkshop.com/HowLongToGet6packAbs.htmI would like to make women's version of HowtoGet6packabs page. But there's so little info. Perhaps we could work together for better research. I'm very happy to find a mountain lover here. Someday I'll visit you and we'll climb together. Thanks!

WOW! i received my caliper today and if i measured it right, i have 27%bf!! quite a jump from 21. i knew 21 was somewhat not right based on some photos of different chicas with that bf but i did not expect 27% bf!!!! i am either doing something wrong or i just need to quit whinning and work out more

I guess your 21% was measured at gym by bioelectric Impedance.
I knew this thing is inaccurate but am so surprised! But now you know the reality, you can make better strategy. The journey seems so long but it's not impossible. But thank you so much for your input. I didn't know scales tell lies this far!!!

yes, it was measured at gym by bioelectric Impedance. very inacurate even though the fitness person in the gym keeps telling me that it is quite accurate. i do not look like a person with 21% bf but i didn't think i was closer to 27 either. one way or the other, i have to keep going, it is just discouraging to see now how much further i have to go
