Hey guys (girls too)! At my job I've been trying to encouraage people I work with to exercise more because it has made me feel great, so I want to share the experience. Well there is this girl I work with who is one of the younger people I work with and I've been telling her how much fun exercise can be. So one day at work she told me that did some crunches the other night, and that they wore sore. I was happy because I got her to workout! So now she's becoming more interested, and wants to know how to get stronger but not lose any weight. she just wants to build muscle. What should I tell her? I'm not really the brightest crayon in the box when it comes to nutrition and diet..

Keep it extremely simple.  Smiley  A few recipes to try.  A simple workout to do.  How to go about with the pull up bar problem. And briskwalking 20 minutes a day as cardio.

Lol this would be so much easier if I could get her to join the forum and meet the other women who workout. that way they will further encourage her..

I don't understand something MercNil.. Sad I tried to get several of my friends to workout but, one of them says they don't have time, another says he is "old and broken" (he is only 27 or 28). I just don't get why people don't take the advice.. Especially good advice like this. I mean my friends could atleast give it ONE try.. Why do people turn down something that could make them happier and feel better? Everyday I go to work and I almost always picture the team I work with being fit, strong, happy, and most of all not hurting! (We unload trucks at a warehouse.)

They don't take the advise, because they didn't ask for it. They didn't ask for it, because it's not their priority.  It's not their priority, because they think something is more important than exercising.  Smiley

I know.. It just sucks when people don't accept your advice when the advice your giving them could make them feel better than the ever have.. It's like giving someone a present and them not taking it.. I gave a guy I work with(the one who says he is old and broken)an extra door mounted pull up bar I had and he probably never uses it..

Be an example instead, because they will follow you if you're getting great results by being fit.  And forcing a person to change isn't the best way to go about it.  The person must recognize the benefits, otherwise, they'll ignore it.

Most people get really pissed and stop listening to advice at all when they have the feeling that you're getting religious about something. So don't do that. The best way to get people to do what is good for them usually includes letting them believe it was all their own idea. Do not press it - as MercNil said: Be an example!

Lol, yeah, don't give people advice they obviously don't want to hear. People keep giving me advices I don't want to hear and it really gets to my nerves!

tat is great that you are encouraging your friend to work out and also tells the benefits of exercising like
    gud health is gud wealth.
    No. 1: Exercise controls weight
No. 2: Exercise combats health conditions and diseases
    No. 3: Exercise improves mood
    No. 4: Exercise boosts energy
No. 5: Exercise promotes better sleep
No. 6: Exercise puts the spark back into your sex life
No. 7: Exercise can be fun

even after working out for 1 year it has changed my life

i had severe self esteem issues when i was in school (sometimes i couldn't look people in the eye)

now all those problems are gone (almost - slowly getting there) Grin

i owe my friend big time for getting me into lifting - after i started getting serious i got 3 other friends at my school into lifting

some people get offended when you tell them they should workout  Kiss IDK why

so unless you really know an individual, i would suggest not to suggest they should workout (directly at least) 0 they feel insulted LOL

most of them are lazy and expect to get huge results in 1-2 months... otherwise everyone in this world would be shredded and huge
