Does anybody here meditate?? I'm thinking of starting. And I post this on Women's Fitness because in my opinion, women are more likely to do Yoga than men. And in my opinion people who do Yoga are more likely to meditate.

Its good for focusing on an specific goal. I learned to meditate in my psychology class (I do it sometimes).. The goal of meditation is to calm you down and set your mind to an specific thing. For startes, use diaphramatic breathing (belly instead of toraxic) and count when you breath out(count till 10, then repeat) Then, focus on ONE thing only... for example, if you are attempting a bench press PR, visualize yourself achieving the lift... feel the tightness of your muscles, etc) Meditating is very useful; you can use it to study for a test, for relaxing purposes or even exercising like I said before

Meditation can help you with anything endurance related. Once you learn to meditate you can use the technique to let's say when you are running forget about your fatigue and continue running longer distance.
I tried last night.. Only got to 5 minutes with my eyes closed. I'll try again today. I think too much. -.-

For me, lifting is a sort of meditation. When I do intense workouts I get very focused, and my mind clears. Especially so on lighter weight, higher rep workouts.

That's true. But I mean real deep meditation.

That's true. But I mean real deep meditation. For me, cardio is a sort of meditation. For one hour, I can enjoy a blank mind. Cardio reduces stress and helps me not to overeat or overworry. Whether lifting or cardio, workouts play really important part in dieting. People overeat not because they have extra appetite but stress :-( We all need a meditation to calm ourselves and free us from negative thinking.

You got it all wrong. First of all, what you all describe is not meditation, is concentration and determination (almos the same, but not).
What you do is combine meditation tecniques (sort of), and use them to build up your mind and heart, by the way, NICELY DONE.
But meditation is not about goals, it's about empty your mind. Think of nothing, go inside and find.
Here's how you meditate (lots of tecniques, but this one I can explain). Sit up straight, hands on your side or form a pyramid with your thumbs (right over left). Close your eyes and concentrate on your breahting. Breathe in deep through your nose using your diafragm, hold for one sec or two, breathe out through your mouth. Concentrate on THAT, only on that. All other thoughts that come to mind, let them pass, don't fight them, just concentrate on your breathing. Eventually you get, haha not lost, but found inside. You'll know what I mean.
P.S. don't fall asleep.

The power of the mind is the most powerful of all. I remember i had a big lift one day, couldnt do it. I went to a quiet room in the gmy complex and sat there for half an hour, visualizing, making it happen in my mind. I then went on to complete the lift in acouple mins.
Your mind and body must become one to achieve true success in fitness.

I meditate. I make the room dark, light some candles, maybe play some soothing music. And I first focus on my breathing, or I use a guided meditation. Super relaxing and good for your mind. You should try Charka Meditation, It realigns your 7 points in your body. Very cool.
