Being a girl myself, the truth is I avoid these kind of forums. I work out with as much weight as possible (no little pink ones for me, please) and I follow guy's programs. Women's fitness has a strange habit of being too light (because women think being thin is better than being fit, and because women avoid doing anything hard if they can get away with it...)

so, no! don't keep this forum open, its stupid to think that women should work out differently than men. Its a misconception kept alive by the division of programs.

...and don't get me wrong, I love watching women in my gym doing exorcises without weight (air squats, lunches, bench press with two water bottles etc.), but they don't get anywhere, and do you really want people to push themselves nowhere at all? this is the path to giving up on weight lifting even though most people benefit hugely from it.

    Scooby,

I've completely changed my mind. Let's close women's fitness.

I see too many posts from men without reading or understanding women's issues.

I cannot put up with them any more. And what's good about having a women's fitness board when nosy impolite guys make comments???

You can keep it open but I'm walking away. I'm fully fed up.

Lol I read that thread with that discussion between you, Little Sprite, Ozmuz, and MercNil. If that's your idea of what nosy and impolite guys are then you are far too sensitive. Nothing they said was impolite at the slightest bit.

Nothing to do with feminism. Ozmuz and LS tried to help out and she immediately calls them rude and nosy. It's like asking for help and then admonishing someone for giving an answer.

Did I miss something here? What was wrong with Ozmuz and LS responses? Is it just because they are men?

Re-reading the thread I think Omatsu's reaction has nothing to do with this thread specifically.

One needs to remember that the average forum user here is a guy in his late teens or early 20s, and as such likely has some naivete to work out about the opposite sex, and probably life in general. Most have good intentions.

One also needs to remember that this is the internet. That is:

The internet is full of people who will post without thinking, are trying to help but are woefully uninformed, and outright trolls. That is the nature of the beast. I would maintain that we keep this forum as one of the most friendly and polite that exists for bodybuilding and fitness.

Anyway, I still believe we should keep this board open, even with its low traffic. There are specific issues that belong here, like as someone mentioned picking a good sports bra. That's something that a man who's never worn one couldn't really answer. The best I can do there is provide a link to someone who knows what they're talking about. I can still respond to the question in a helpful way, even though I know nothing personally.

In general, a woman can and should work out like a man with similar goals. Therefore she would probably get the best responses posting questions in the appropriate parts of the forum. Likewise, everyone should steer clear of offtopic, for their sanity  Tongue

I think there are differences in fitness and doing sports in general between the sexes.

The similarities surely are much bigger, than the differences, but their are some.
Appart from the specific social factor of "gaining muscle" for women and men, their are bodily differences, which are, understandable not seen by most men.

An average woman is ortopedically not as resilient as an average man. And this is a key factor in the topic of lifting heavy. Orthopedical aging of women is always 10 years ahead of men. I will not say, women should not lift, to the contrary. Only I think they have to do it more wisely from beginning on and keeping other things in mind.

Then their is all that hormone related stuff. From muscle mass to recovery ability, which is also lower in women.

Yes there are differences, and you bring up a good point about bone density. However, I would argue that everyone should "train wisely from the beginning." In my experience, it seems young men tend to be a lot dumber than women when safety is involved. The rush of testosterone makes guys feel immortal, and inflates egos. Big ego = dangerous form. I think women are usually more sensible in general.

As you mentioned, women can lift very heavy.

I only wanted to say, their ARE specific topics and problems of female persons working out. All the guides and coaches on youtube and on the internet, most answers you read here, are designed to fit for young male persons. Thta's understandable, sind this is the majority of people who read and post on the topic of lifting and fitness.

Exactly that's why I like here to see a female forum and another forum for persons, who are not that young any more. Because that's different clientel, different situations and goals, different daily routines, different life styles.
