Hey all, my sis just got a workout plan and is allowed to add one exercise into it. I kinda told her that squats are the king of exercises, but she 'just wants some better definition', but not fuller legs. So do you think she should do squats? Maybe a bit lighter than her 8-12RM is what I had in mind, but I'm not sure. What do you people here think?

Definition comes from removing fat. If I had it my way, I'd get her doing heavy squats 5x5. She won't get huge legs like she's probably scared of.

X2 x3 I think she should rest very long between sets.. say over 2 minutes under 6. That way she can avoid fatigue. Don't think that doing low reps won't give a lot of mass.

I love squats! Remind her how hard it is for men to bulk up, it's almost impossible for women (unless they take steroids).

Thanks Goldie, hearing this from a woman really convinced me. Do you recommend the 5x5 too? I love squats too. Cute dog by the way.

For squats, I do 6 weeks of heavy/lower rep, take a week off, then do 6 weeks of lighter/higher rep. I usually squat 3 times a week.
I am female/lightweight/over-30, and my goals are different than most others here. My main goals are overall fitness, and endurance+strength for other sports I do.
And to be ready for the zombie apocalypse.
The dog is one of my Golden Retrievers when he was a pup!

How much do you rest in between sets? And I agree, that is a cute doggy in your display picture.

When I squat heavy, I rest about 2-2.5 minutes between sets. When I squat lighter, around a minute.

I have a question: Since women cant grow their muscles as easily as women, are squats good for developing leg thickness on women?
