Welcome Linda Jane! Your question is a very commonly asked one, and luckily there is a very simple answer. The fact of the matter is that unfortunately there is no such thing as "spot fat removal." For example there's no way to only lose fat in one particular area. The way fat loss works is that it all decreases and depending on genetics, where fat is the last to go and the first to gain. Most commonly it is in the lower stomach, buttocks, and hips/thighs. However in some people's cases such as your own, the last storage of body fat can be anywhere else on the body. You just need to stick to a diet with a calorie deficit and keeping up with the cardio, and if you've noticed a plateau in weight loss, either up the cardio or decrease your calorie intake to where you lose about 1-2 pounds a week. Keep this up and you'll see that last annoying bit of body fat melt away! And keep in mind that it is important to keep an overall fit body and to not put too much focus on only one particular muscle group. It is important to create a symmetrically built body to prevent any possible injury. Don't forget to incorporate your other muscle groups just as often as your arms. If you need anymore information on this you know where to come to ask!

I respectfully disagree. This pic was taken today after my wife did a 2 hour workout. She has only gotten more beautiful IMO.

It's a human spammer, folks. These guys get paid a dollar or so to get beyond spam prevention measures and then either simply set up a spam link in their profile or, if they are a bit niftier, post some messages that look like they could almost be connected to the topic at hand and then have the spam link in their messages.

Hi, I'm new here. I just turned 40. Joined the gym after years of being lazy, in June. I weighed about 190, 5'4". I was diagnosed with PCOS once, and have kind of used the excuse that I don't want to exercise 2-3 times harder than someone without PCOS. Anyway, my weight has just been climbing and climbing and climbing.
I started lifting weight at end of July. Per The New Rules of Lifting for Women. Its made a big difference in my body composition. I also lift with a pro powerlifter woman every couple weeks. I currently squat 135, bench 95, dead lift 165. I really enjoy these lifts. I'm currently doing phase 7 of new rules, it's 4 sets of high reps for the exercises, other than the big lifts, those are two sets of 6-8.
I've lost lots of inches and built muscle. My scale has not moved too much. Currently I am at 182. I have been eating at maintenance for the past two weeks or so to hopefully jump start metabolism again.
I am good with the exercise portion of all this, though I do want to add some cardio in. For fat loss to show on the scale. I'm thrilled with the inches and leaning out some, I went from a size XL shirt to L, and I was probably needing a 16 in pants and now a 12, with not much scale weight. Most people think I weigh in the 160's because I'm very proportionate.
The nutrition part throws me for a loop. I was eating around 1800 calories, then I reduced it. I am always told to reduce calories, to even extremes, as long as I do a diet break.

I wasn't done with my post above. Anyway, the nutrition throws me for a loop. Not what to eat, but how much. I feel like in nearly 6 months, I should have lost more than 8 pounds on the scale? I was doing a 25% deficit. I think I will recalculate again and use Scoobys numbers. At 20% deficit. I've tried a few weeks at 1500 which is below BMR. I have also had some mishaps by doing high protein, low fat, low carb. Mi also did high protein, moderate fat, low carb.
I also have not been doing hardly any cardio. I hate traditional cardio, but love weightlifting, so I may try some of the complexes or kettle bell stuff. Or Zumba. I enjoy lifting heavy as I can, and have some goals with that, so I worry I woukd be defeating the purpose with the complexes, like the barbell one, that I woukd use too heavy a weight.
Anyways, the diet aspect is the hardest for me. I have a lot if scale weight to lose. To combat scale fears, I had my picture taken a few days ago. I'm going to have them taken end if month to compare. I would live to knock a few inches off and scale pounds.
Anyways, that's me. I tend to focus in the scale only, and admit it controls me too much. One pound lost, and I'm on cloud 9, one gained, or worse 5, during time of month, and I am about in despair.
I ordered a fit bit to help track my NEAT. Hoping with that, getting out of maintenance, adding cardio...that there will be success at the end of the month and year.
Thanks!!
